my car starts but when i put into drive it doesn't move.
has any body with a 4 gen prelude ever started your car and the 4 (4 speed auto) on the cluster blinks repeatedly. then when you put the car in drive (4) and tap the gas it moves at about 0.5 mph. My cars been doing this recently and i don't know what it could be.
Okay so you have an automatic prelude. And when you put it in 4th gear it goes .5 mph.
Thats because its your final gear. Designed for the highway speeds.
Keep your car in overdrive unless your parked or going in reverse.

I'm sure he means he puts it in D4, which is what I used when I had my auto. I believe when the cluster blinks it means there's a problem with the transmission.

you can't put an automatic in 4th gear to start out with, it won't let allow it. Anyways, o the OP, is the transmission or car making any kind of unusual noises when you go to put it in drive? Any warning lights on the guage cluster on at all? You should jack up your car and see that when you select gears in the car that the shift rod is working and you can see it moving, or else it could be an electrical problem or inside the tranny mechanical problem.

Check the transmission code like Jagan said. If you don't know how, pick up a Helms manual for your car.
Jerkiness in an automatic is usually a sign of a failing transmission, but there ARE other things that can cause jerkiness as well as the problem you're currently having.
Read the code.
