Default H22 Internal Mods

Gonna be picking up my full H swap here in about 2 weeks, my Accord has been down with a thrown rod since last August. Anyway, picking it up from a local performance shop for $1200... a lot less than I had expected to spend on the full swap so I'm gonna have some extra cash. The head is currently separated from the block and I figure while it's apart, I might as well use some of that money to beef things up.

Just looking for some "best bang for the buck" suggestions for around $800. Already set up with the intake and exhaust and will definitely be picking up a header. New to the H side and just need some good suggestions (i.e.- cams, header, rods/pistons, etc.).

Thanks in advance.

Nobody huh? Figured with a direct question I'd at least get a few good responses from the H guys around here. Just want a few good options.

Get a set of cams.

You cant just get rods and pistons in an H22. The block is made of FRM and you can not use forged pistons with the stock frm sleeves. Sleeving the block alone will cost more than your 800 budget. You can also use special pistons from Mahle that will work with the frm but with the mods you are doing I wouldnt even bother.

Slap the head and block together, Get a decent set of cams, valvetrain and cam gears.
Intake manifold and TB may not be a bad idea as well, but will definitely be over your budget.

cams, euroR manifold, tune.

you can find some type S cams, or some lower profile skunks for pretty cheap

manifold is gonna be expensive (500) if you want to buy it ready to be bolted on

tuning can be done with crome.

How much more airflow will the mani result in? Gains are decent I'm assuming.

And as for tuning, I just wish I could find a decent crome tuner somewhere in central Texas. From searches in the past (with my boosted F), the nearest decent crome tuner is like 2 states away

She's already got a VAFC in her so I'll definitely get some AFR tuning out of it from the get-go but the overall coverage of crome or hondata will have me upgrading quick.

you could put in type S pistons to raise compression (11:1).

i'd rather go with cams. to the OP if its a JDM motor you will be pretty good compression wise already,USDM not so good but not bad either... i going with some cams would be a better decision.. remember to also upgrade the valvetrain. springs and retainers. blueprint sells pretty affordable valvetrain and the Blox cams will work great and be affordable. good luck!

Type -s pistons would make power, and be a better supporting mod for future upgrades

with the cost of the pistons and install he could buy cams and make WAY more power... and cheapy ebay header for 70 bucks.. he's on a $800 budget.. might as well get the most out of it with the 800 bucks. pistons are in no way going to give him as much power as the cams will.

Pistons and more will definitely come later but right now I just want a little extra out of the motor before I drop it in. I figured throwing another $800 at it would be good considering i'd be spending $2000 total for a full H swap with some decent internals.

Going with the skunk2 pro1 cam setup though, seems to be the way to go to get the best mix of performance and streetability. Now if I can just find a tuner round here

Thanks for the insight

Search the archives for tuning services. There are a couple in houston if nothing else.

s2s1 or s2p1 cams and tune it.....
Awesome gains from 3000-7000! Add the valvetrain for another 5-700rpms of powerband!

Also, can anyone recommend a company that makes a great equal-length header?
