hey well i own a 97 civic hatch and im getting a free gsr motor but i need to rebuild it. my civic is an automatic and i was wondering what i need to rebuild the gsr motor to its highest potential and get the best of what i can with my automatic transmission. i was wondering what tranny would work best for the gsr because i heard about automatic gsr somewhere and what tranny and also what ecu to use
If youre asking these types of questions, you should take the engine to a machine shop and have them rebuild it, using parts that YOU researched and decided was best. You personally shouldnt be doing it yourself
Im not even going to tell you to search for the transmission stuff......hint hint

Hate to break it to you, but You need to do more research, Civic SOHC engine transmissions do not attach to Twin-Cam engines such as the GSR.
I don't even know if there is such a thing as an automatic GSR. if you want to stay automatic, you'd have to go buy a Automatic LS transmission to bolt to the GSR motor, and that will fail in a hurry as it wasn't designed to handle the GSR's output.
