For starters, you cant lower boost more than the wastegate by means of a boost controller.

Secondly, if the setup is tuned correctly, you have nothing to worry about; however, if its not, you have a time bomb on your hands. Another thing, psi alone doesnt tell us anything. Power is what breaks parts.

First thing I would do is tune it, and not with a VAFC.

Also, get a leak down test done or if not atleast a compression test.

How well has the car been maintained?

hhahhaha

I was just hoping to hear that atleast the timing belt, tensioner, and water pump were replace. The headgasket and studs would be a plus.

It sounds like you have a few more things to source before you start it up and take it for a spin...good tuning is a MUST

Also, a valve adjustment wouldn't hurt.

If it blows during tuning, its due to 1 of 2 factors.

1. Bad tuner
2. Something was overlooked and your engine was doomed from the start

Having said that, i hate tuning because i worry EVERY time it goes on the dyno. Generally i walk down the street a ways and try not to think about it...talk about stress
