Another Ground Control question..
Hey everyone, how's it going? So I'm planning on going with a Ground Control coilover, plus Tokico Illumina shocks, on my '88 CRX Si, with a B16a swap from an Integra XSi. I don't race the car, it's a street car, daily driven, and it sees occasional spirt driving.
Here's my question, I understand that the base GC spring rates offered for the CRX are 350f/250r. Being that my car has a swap, should I opt to get the spring rates intended for the DA Integra which are 380f/250r. I was thinking this to better support the heavier motor. Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!!

well Mike ..... here on honda-tech searching is the best answer and way faster than waiting for these guys. besides most of them will FLAME you hard for any little thing.
About your suspension, i think your wasting your time with sleave overs GC's and illuminas. You can get descent FULL coilover sets for the price of these two combined. Unless you already have the parts its not work it in my opinion. I think tein, skunk2, and other coilovers are great and they have the shortened shock body as well.

I rock the koni/gc combo and absolutely love them.
I went 400f/500r with the top hats and have to say that it surpasses most other setups in the price range. Yes, they are a sleeve style and are quite pricey but at the end of the day, you can't argue with results. tein (in the same price range) and skunk 2 suck. I have experienced them both in other people's car and
do a lot of searching before you make a decision and be sure that what you buy will suit your needs

i am running nearly the same setup as you. My suspension setup is Koni/GCs (400F/450R). At first i started with this setup when i had my original d16a6 and worked absolutely perfect. Now that i have the swap (b16a temporarily), i feel that 400 in the front is a bit too soft. I may jump up to 500 in the front and play with the 400 and 450 for the rear. Im still trying to convince myself to stay in SM class for autox but i may just overhaul my d16a6 and go back to STS.
GC Koni combo is by far the best for the money. Tein and Skunk may work if you only plan really lite use of the car, or dont intend to own it very long.
Ground Control is lifetime warranty as is Koni. Neither Skunk or Tein can offer the same. In fact - in the TEIN instructions and I kid you not, it very clearly indicates that the CO suspension is not intended for roadgoing vehicles.
Does this mean TEIN is only intended for a stationary display vehicle? I understand this may be for liability purposes, but you definately will not find the same restriction imposed by Koni, Ground Control or Eibach.
Oh and for your application - call Ground Control, those guys are really helpful and will have some good info for setting up your car.

You dont really need to worry about the spring rates on a B series swap. the motor doesnt weigh that much more than the stock one, maybe 50 lbs? not enough to affect your spring rate.

Thank you to the guys who actually gave me info I needed!
RSZero1, thank you very much for the helpful reply, I'm going to call GROUND CONTROL this week. I've installed numerous suspension kits on cars, and although Tein makes a good product, I feel the company is a little over rated. I really want to try a GC setup because it sounds like a true and tried setup among Honda enthusiasts!

Well I just got off the phone with GC, they were very helpful. He said I should go with the DA Integra spring rates for my application. He did some math equation, told me over the phone. He also said that the Tokico Illuminas will offer a good ride on the street, but the preferred shock is obviously the Koni Yellow because they're valved for firmer rates. Obviously. So I'll keep you guys on posted on what I do. Thanks again!

the difference of 380 and 350 isnt really going to be felt really.
and its certainly suitable for illuminas.

Im gonna have to agree with manny, I am currently running the base gc spring rate with kyb struts. Tein and skunk2 and intrax are some of the worst purchases I have ever made
Hahahaha good call my friend. I actually have the complete suspension from my totaled 90 Si on the car, including trailing arms, rear discs, LCA'S, etc.. but thanks for looking out!!
