17's or 18's on a FG ('06+ Si coupe)?
I posted this in the A/C forum because I want to see what people think looks better, 17's or 18's? I realize 17's are more of a performance wheels and will be most likely llighter weight.
Well I am still riding on the stock 17's on my Si and I have been looking at wheels for months now and plan on picking up a set over the winter to mount in the spring. First I thought I wanted 18's then for a while now I thought I was set on a 17 x 8, but recently I came across a really nice set of 18 x 8's brand new for a good price and its got me second guessing myself.
With most cars I usually like the stance of smaller wheel applications with a nice drop but with FG's it seems to really depend on the drop and model of wheel. Some 17's look sick and others look way too small, and some 18's look hot and others look disproportional to the car and almost look like they lift the car.
Here are some examples of 17's...
ill rollers old FG on 17 x8's

17 x 8 Advan RGII's

17 x 8 F 17 x 9 R

17 x 7.5's spaced out

17 x 8 +38ET

17 x 7.5 Limited Edition TE's
17 x 8 Advan RGII'S

17" DC5 R wheels

17" Wedsport SA90

And here is how my car sits now on the stock 17's lowered in coilovers

Examples of 18's
18" Mugen GP's

18" Volk LE37's

Type X's old FG on 18" TE37's

18" Work Meister 3pc. on a sedan

18" Mugen GP's Again

18" Enkei RPM2's

18" Work XT7's

18 x 8 Work XD9's

Let me know what you guys think.
IF ANY OF THE OWNERS OF THESE CARS WANT ME TO TAKE DOWN A PIC OF THEIR CAR JUST LET ME KNOW.

Yeah they do look hot, the only thing that bother me is you have to space them out and they are a different shade of white from the car, regardless still better than what most guys have been putting on their 8thgen civics.

Yeah I have been trying to do my research and saved a lot of pics along the way, these were just some of the better examples and shots of the entire car.
I just want to be happy with my choice in wheels and not end up regretting the size.

Personally Im going 17" because they are cheaper, lighter, and ride better (no rubber band tires).
What coils are you on?
Not many chocies for the Si right now and I want to make a good choice

Yeah those are some of the same reason I was leaning towards a 17 x 8.
I am lowered on TEIN SS's and I am pretty happy with them, but like you said there aren't a whole lot of choices. Their certainly not the best application for Auto-X or track driving but for daily driving and achieving the height I wanted they work great.

How would you compare those to the Buddy Clubs?
Trackable on BCs?

Haha, I just saw your post on 8thcivic in the " Had the chance to autocross an Si with the Tein SS..." thread.
Honestly man, I have put over 16k miles (probably over 10k have been on the SS's) on my car since I got in March, I drive it every day. I have tried to build my car as a well rounded car, but at the same time I completely recognize that like many other things there is not one suspension setup that is ideal for everything.
There are track setups that are great on a track and for auto-x'n but most likely too harsh for the street (and take into consideration how many miles/ hours you spend on a track vs. on the street). And then there are setups like my SS's that IMO are a good all around setup and are a little more forgiving for the streets and daily driving than a true track setup.
If you are not concerned with having the ability to slam your car or adjust your ride height, then I think the HFP suspension kit is the best all around kit available for the Si's. I have a hard time believing the Buddy Club's are any better performing on the street or track than the SS's. Mario and Greg's whole argument in that thread on 8thcivic is not that the SS's in particular suck for Auto-X'n but that prebuilt one piece coilovers suck in general, let them think that they are auto-x fanatics.
I would like to see how Koni Yellows with ground controls perform on an Si with a moderate spring rate, however as you know the Koni yellows aren't available for our cars yet unless you want to pay to have a set custom fabbed, which i would never do.

Yea I guess you're right. No matter what it seems custom rates would be needed to really make a difference on the track. I just can't decide if I want the Buddy Clubs or the Teins because nobody has really compared the two. How easy are the TEINs to adjust?
Up up and away for you and your clean *** FG

How easy is it to adjust the height? or the dampening?
Both are pretty standard for an FG setup. No matter what struts or coils you end up with the dampening adjustment is gonna be somewhat hidden, and as far as the height they are just traditional locking rings.
I guess the consensus so far is 17's, anyone else care to share their opinion?

Yeah I think its settled, I am gonna stick with my initial plan of 17 x 8's with a 35-40mm offset depending on the make and model of wheel.
