well to be exact this is a budget base coat clear coat....only the base coat is rattle can and the clear was done with a paint gun and compressor

-i used like 10-12 cans of $5 spray paint from kregan
-did good prep and body work
-did a good base coat piece by piece for best results since it is done in the open environment
-after it dried i put another fresh coat of the base color and cleared it piece by piece

here is my build thread to further illustrate what i did

isnt open environment bad? wind can blow dust n other particles onto wet paint. did you buff after the clear? what did you use for prepwork? adhesives/primers etc.

oh if you did buff what did you use to buff?

lol....

white hides really the details now if you did that with black its a whole different story. i can tell just with a quick glance that the paint is very dull. but its better than old ugly nasty paint so i will give you credit there. but you can do much better with a 1 stage paint job and MUCH better with 2,3 stage paint.

it's not dull by anymeans, it just has a low DOI making it appear 'dull' to you because of all the orange peel. that will definately change if you wetsand it. i'm kinda curious to see how it would look.

so how did you get the clear to stick to the spraypaint? Do you think it will last? Interesting idea, although I feel like if i was taking it into the booth anyway for the clear I would have just spent the extra $100-$200 on a legit basecoat, but hey, looks like it came out fine.
