Default DRAG CITY JANUARY 10, 2008 MEETING CANCELED!

Yes i know it was a longshot anyway and now it looks like the city is doing even more to stop this project from being built. well it would have been cool!

I wonder where the next imaginary track is going to be supposedly built... or reopening........

anyway here's the link to the article about it...

A well run drag facility brings big money into the local economy, I am shocked that it is so hard to find a good location for a track.

this is Southern California.. Real estate here is BIG money.. a basic 2-3 bedroom house is easily 400 to 500+ thousand.. rent alone for a one bedroom apt is $1200....

DRAG CITY JANUARY 10, 2008 MEETING CANCELED!

In an interesting and unusual turn of events Drag City was contacted by the City of Banning’s Community Development Director, Oscar Orci, Sunday evening at 6:23pm on January 6, 2008. He stated that the upcoming Planning Commission Meeting of January 10th was CANCELED due to a clerical error by the City to notify the public of this meeting. We let him know that we thought this was rather odd, since I received a letter from him back on December 12, 2007, which stated the date and time of this meeting. According to a local newspaper reporter, at the last Planning Commission Meeting on January 3rd, which was televised, it was announced to the public that a special meeting was to take place regarding Drag City on the 10th. What does all of this mean? Your guess is as good as ours. Maybe, they realize that the public will want to attend this meeting in large numbers and are just now becoming aware of the almost 1,000 online signatures of support by the public to have the City reconsider the action that the City Council took in canceling the drag strip, that is so desperately needed in our community.

We are aware by the many emails and phone calls that many of you were planning on attending this public hearing that has now been CANCELED. We will update you with the new date that this hearing will take place on, when the city lets us know. Please continue visiting our web site for the latest updates. And thank you for your support, the fact that they canceled the meeting makes us feel that THE POWER OF THE PEOPLE is being heard.

KEEP THE FAITH!

There's alot more going on behind the scenes than people realize. I spoke to my friend Brenda Salas who is Mayor of Banning and here is what she told me. The people behind Drag City were supposed to come up with a way to raise their portion of the money to build the facility and they failed. They then wanted to make the city fund the whole project and have the Banning tax payers come out of the pocket to build the track. The city did not find it in thier best interest to do so and saw that there are alot of other projects planned for the land that can bring revenue to the city. So , the city is cancelling the racetrack and hearing bids from other business people on the land. This "racetrack" project has been going on for 8 or so years and the city decided it couldn't keep losing money on all that land. I blame the organizers behind Drag City for not having a better business plan and not creating a better way to raise the money needed for the track.

I know it sucks that the track will not come to be , but I guess we can't expect the city to pick up the tab on something that would have been good for us , but not for the city. Understandable. Maybe someday we'll have a track open all the time near us , but for now , I guess we'll be racing at out local 1/8th mile tracks. The project is dead and over. Time to move on. Sorry guys. See you all at Battle.

Everything in California is about money. Barona is my outlet to racing and im enjoying every minute of it. They have plans and the money to build a 1/4 track just not the land unless they turn the track sideways or fill in the side of the mountain. It was the anwser to the closing of carlsbad. You can go to any of there v8 events and see atleast 10 plus cars in the parking lot. I see a lot of complaining about california having drag strips but you never see stands full or complainers actually supporting the venue they have open. Ok now Bannings out whats next besides talk of a track being open.

I wonder how it's possible, that with as many people with BIG money out there, that not one of those rich people aren't into drag racing, and were/are willing to invest in a facility.

Have actually talked about it. Not just for racing, but the cost of living here in Cali too. But yeah , the racing is important too.
