Signs of a bad motor mount??
I get 1 or 2 'thumps' coming from the drivers side when I hit a dip in the road. It doesn't happen all the time (I just hate intermittent problems) but most of the time. I thought it maybe it was a bundle of wires inside the left fender hitting the fender because I had an incident where the splash shield was ripped out. However I fixed this with new clips to hold the wires. I am going to go back in a verify everything is ok, but this knock sounds deeper/more solid than that. I have just replaced the lower and upper ball joints and wheel bearings on both sides of the car. I can't see anything in the suspension area that looks loose. The cv joints look fine also. Can someone tell me how to check for bad motor mounts? BTW, my car is a '96 sedan.
Thanks!
Thanks!
If you vehicle is an automatic then you can have another person watch the engine while you give it a little gas in gear with your foot firmly on the brake. you want to keep the whole car from moving while you are doing this. It will show you if the engine is moving excessively. If it does then your mounts are more than likely toast.
