Default Help I need a question answered 57trim or t3 60-1 for 400++whp

Okay guys I'am having alot of trouble on deciding a turbo to achieve my 400whp on a future build. The setup will consist of a ls/vtec simple piston rod setup(81.5mm). A b16 head with a built valve train, gsr cams, max bore tb,and a Itr im. I've been looking into the Garrett t3/t4 57trim (.63a/r) stage 3 wheel, and the t3 60-1 stage(.63a/r).I know alot of people has achieved 400whp horsepower with there Garrett 57 trim turbos. But I have notice also It was between 17-20psi with the setup I'll be doing to achieve that kind of power.I know that people say never to look at PSI as a primary means to measure power. But I do also hear that that turbo runs out of usuable energy from 18-22 psi.Now if I where to go that route(t3/t4 57trim stage 3 .63ar) and have the boost at 20psi to reach my goal of 400whp. Can that cause alot of stress to the turbo at that kind of psi???? Opinions and experience please????Also has anyone had any experience with the t3/60-1 stage 3 .63ar?????? Hear this turbo can support up to 450-550+whp. I just want a nice setup of 400++ horsepower on 93 octane somewhat spool fast but has room to grow. And maybe 500whp on racegas(E85/C16).So what do you guys think I should go with for my goal??????

good call.

i make 415 with a 60-1 at 17 psi also on an lsvtec but im at 84mm bore.

i wouldnt get the 57 trim. it will be maxxed on your initial goals and you will have to upgrade if you want any more power

-57 trim .82 ar
-60-1 stage V turbine
-Silver Surfer
-Garrett GT3076r
-Borg Warner S258

In MY list of preference...the bottom one being the best pick IMO

I've said it in the past, but the Borg Warner S256 WILL BE my next turbo. They're awesome and don't recieve nearly enough credit. People instead opt for the GT3076r because its "ball bearing" which to most people means it will spool faster. If only people were more educated about their choices before picking them for the wrong reasons

No, that was in reference to the large amount of ignorant people who, rather than researching and learning, merely follow the bandwagon and suggestions from other equally ignorant people. This subject generally gets me all pissed off

The S256 and STC Silver Surfer can do a fantastic job of making 400whp at under 17-18psi, because of their compact size, yet high flowing capabilities. The Silver surfer is about $850 compared to the S256 which is about $1150. The Silver surfer uses a 60-1 compressor wheel in an extrude honed t04b compressor housing (the way it originally came before the "S" cover options) and uses a P-Trim turbine wheel instead of the Stage III which is on most peoples list, and though runs well, really puts stress on the exhaust wheel. The S256 uses an extended tip compressor wheel, which is an extention of the distance between the inducer and exducer. The real advantage is not only a great turbo that reaches positive manifold pressure quickly, but it runs with much lower IAT temperatures that allow the unit to run more boost, safely. The S256 also comes standard with a P-Trim exhaust wheel, and does well. B16a4 ran over 220whp on only 6psi of boost from the silver surfer, and more tests have been performed with the S256 (though at least 350whp or more should be the goal for one that is going to purchase it).

Let me know if you need more information on either unit

Care to elaborate? I really dislike when people suggest something (other than when its blatantly obvious) without any rationale to back their post.

They're close enough where you probably wouldnt notice a difference.

The numbers of dyno sheets i've seen with RPM vs MAP logs. There are several GT30r dynos floating around and with a little time, you can snag a few S256 dynos along the way.

I can't wait for the results and some "unbiased" data

well if they are out there i havent seen any. someone shoot me a pm with a link please.

yes our results will be unbiased, completely proffesional, and on video tape. i noticed you put the word in quotes, i hope you arent trying to insinuate that we would attemp to scew the results.

to the OP i think a 57 trim will get the job done for 400whp. weve done it several times with this turbo, and not in the 20psi area, closer to 16psi more so.

Thanks I'am happy to hear that the 57trim can reach that goal without running out of efficency,Now as far as the gt30r vs S256 I can't wait to see the results .

Im pretty much after the same thing and had it narrowed it down to the sc61. Let me know if you get that brog price but I think its a little to expensive for my taste.
