I just replaced the rear rotors and pads. There is a "caliper cover" that looks like it serves no purpose. One of mine broke. Thin piece of metal covering part of the caliper and the parking brake cable.

Is this part neccessary??? What purpose does it serve?

its alright if they are off

they are a heat and dust shield
