rod cap came off h22 prelude
I just bought a 93 prelude vtec. The previous owner said he was just driving down the highway and the rod cap came off. While I am prepared to pay for a different engine if this one is fixable then that im sure would be cheaper. I took a coulpe pics with my camera phone one of the crank where the rod cap came off the other is the cylinder next to it that has all kinds of chips out the outer wall and the bottom of two cylinder are chipped about a quarter inch at the bottom. What do you guys think?

im still trying to figure out how the rod cap came off...anyone tinker with this motor prior to your ownership?? because **** like that doesnt just come off...
The guy I bought it from said the head was just redone at a honda dealer (valve seals, timing belt...), but nothing in the bottom end. I know the guy I got it from wasnt very nice to it. Oh well I will have a 93 h22 5sp prelude for $2000 or less! By the way I only paid $500 for this car with a good trans, tan leather and no rust I feel I got a good deal.

oh no im not saying you got ripped off or anything that is by far a nice grab...just curious about previous ownership is all...drop that motor, find a new crank and start to build it
I'd say drop a new bearing on it, torque the cap down and see what happens.
Dumb idea - yes. Just to see - priceless. Only if you consider is a fun activity though. Eventually, yes, new motor.

yeah i was thinking that, but there are a couple marks on the crank and a chip that isnt that big but I will proably just get another motor and part out this one like some one else said. whats a good price for a h22 head? I have no reciept for the dealer work preformed I might be able to get it. no inake manifold or dizzy. Anyone think the block is worth any thing? I would be happy to get $100 for the block is it worth it?
the same thing happened to my 99 before i bought it. ite nuts that hold the rod cap on stripped right off the bolts and flew off, that also launched the rod through the front of the block. i dont know what caused it cause i didn own it at the time, but the honda dealership the previous owner took it t when the car broke down said it had just run outof oil and would need a new motor, it wasnt untill i tore the motor out of the car that i noticed that it had thrown a rod. its most likely gonna just be easier to buy a new shortblock instead of rebuilding, i got a replacement long block for mine for $500 off ebay.
