Air Bag Deployed For A Curb Scratch
Ok, just trying to figure this out if it is normal or not in 06+ civics... My friend has a 07 Civic Si coupe, we were at a friends house the other day and when my friend was backing his car out the drive way on to the street he crubed his rim on the city sewer. The scratch was maybe 3-4in long, not bad at all but it caused the airbags on the passenger side to deploy. The side airbag on the seat and the top liner popped out. We took it to Honda and they said its not faulty thats how these cars are, anything like that can trigger it and he needs to talk to his insurance
. i think it's bullshit because i known other people with 06+ civics that curbed there rims and nothing like this happened... any suggestions on what to do????????

Wow that really sucks! Sounds like he's going to have no choice but to go through insurance unless he can find used stuff or parts in a junk yard.
Your friend's car may have some additional subframe or undercarriage damage he is unaware of. When you hit the wheel hard enough other components are also involved.
Thanks for the help... Yeah i think he called it into the insurance co. already and hes going to file a complaint w/ American honda. I dont think he was even going that fast. I wil take pics of the damage so you guys can get a better picture, it looks like any other curb rash. No damage to the body what so ever...
thats crazy how he hit a curb and it went off i seen pics of a really really bad crash of an sedan si that got split in half but the steering wheel airbag did not go off

Yeah i seen that one too on another forum. Your talking about the red 4dr right somewhere in DR????? That **** looked crazy, but i havent had a chance to go take a pic yet... but will do so tonight after work/school.
That's whack! My wife curbed a rim while it was on teh drivers rear and the car hopped up the side of the curb as she was pulling forward and turning. Scratched that beautiful HFP 18 pretty good for about 5 inches. Airbags didn't go off but I did.
Then I apologized for going off.
Sucks that AH isn't looking into this more for your buddy. I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that it was metal city sewer part. Metal on metal and maybe that was what the cars computer picked up somehow and therefore, anticipated a rear/passenger collision while the computer knew it was in reverse...
Kind of like backing out of a parking spot and getting nailed by a teenage punk doing 40 in a parking lot...
