Default HELP!!!!! car broke down!!!!! won't stay running!!!!

I have a 94 civic EX, 5-spd. once in a great while it would fire up and the die, I would try it again and it would start just fine so I didn't worry about it. then today it didn't start 10 times in a row, and then did. drove it aways and it just died while driving.

the engine cranks just fine, and WILL respond to throttle input but ONLY with key turned all the way, as soon as the key is released the engine dies INSTANTLY regardless of throttle input.

I suspect it is the ignition switch, as at time the dash lights would not come on with the key in the On position. I would wiggle it and then they would come on but the car will still not stay running. also my stereo would come on with the key on the on position but not the dash lights. also the check engine light did go OFF after 2 seconds when the dash is working. any info would be appreciated.

I tried it again and found out that inbetween ON and START there is another position where the dashlights come on but the starter doesn't engage. so I started the car and instead of letting go of the key I held it inbetween ON and START and it STAYED running, let it go to ON and it shut off again.

key cylinder or switch? (switch right?)

for anyone concerned, I simply cleaned off the contacts of the switch itself with a knife, and alcohol swabs, and it runs GREAT no problem since,

Cool i'll remember that since it seems like a common problem and a bit costly.
