Default HYDROLOCK GG

So i saw a fat puddle and i moved to the left where there was the least amount of water right, and i go through about 15 mph , and it goes through fine, 6 seconds later my car turns off, i pull to the side and try to start it twice, just some clicking noises. I have a aem cai so im guessing i hydrolocked. I took out spark plugs, disconnected the cai and crank it water shoots out. then manually turn the engine it works, change the oil, try turning it on and no good. Try push starting it (im an idiot yes) like 5 x and now the only thing my car does is make a click sound when i try to turn it on. Try it like 6x, just a loud click sound. so wth is up with it
btw its a 97 gsr.
im thinking my motor is GG
any ideas what i should do? a friend suggested getting another short block and swapping it. or i could always take it to the mechanic

my suggestion is to rid the whole engine of moisture. so take the oil pan off and take the head off. from there all you really need to do is change a couple of gaskets and you should be alright. just make sure to get all the water out. its a good time to do all the necessary maintenance like valve lash and gasket changes.

Well I don't think the 1 or 2 more whp you got out of the cai was worth hydrolocking the motor over....On a + note, this gives you a chance to do a fresh rebuild if you can afford it. Possibly some new internals, ie cams, pistons, etc...

theres a book at barnes and noble i think its called like how to make honda power and they got the most power from dyno results from an iceman short ram intake. they tested both the cai and sri...

honestly i dont think anythings wrong, my buddy in cali a long time ago had a CAI and he went in a huge deep puddle of water and HL ,but waited next day changed his TPS and cleaned out as much water and car runs fine as of today,id have it checked out before you open her apart, btw cai doesnt give you more than maybe 2-3hp but i love sri because vtec is louder and i never have to worry about Hyrodlocking, was it worth having the cai? lol i may get lot of repsonse for hating on CAI but o well

alright, so i should take the throttle body out and clean all the water out? and then get a tps and that should be good enough?
lets just say worse case scenario happens and i got busted connecting rods, my friend said i can slip under the car and replace the rod by unscrewing the oil gasket, is that true? i don't think a busted rod would force me to take out the engine and then open it up right?

i doubt you have a busted or bent rod, very unlikely, take TB off clean it, take iacv out clean it, get another tps sensor, maybe even clean the fuel injectors, fuel rail and try to start it and dont give up until it starts i doubt you have a big problem

damn ca rain, but in the future, take out your cai and just stick the filter on the intake manifold.

it is most likely nothing wrong with your pistons or rods.. so dont try to take them out unless you want to replace them. the clicking noise is most likely the starter engaging and disengaging when you turn the key.. to dry out the motor you have to remove the oil pan and the head.. use paper towels or clean shop towels to clean out the water in the chambers/intake mani/head. i would also advise that when you put oil in it use some seafoam or lucas's in the new oil. do a coolant flush then let it run until the thermo opens.. (15-20 min) once that is done let it cool down and do another oil changes to make sure there is no water or anything in the oil.

hope that helps

did you cut a hole in your inner fender or remove the plastic bumper protector to give your CAI complete access to outside air?

If you did..... don't do that. That's why you have the problem you now do.

alright so im gonna remove the head and wipe it dry, the throttle body is going out and wiped dry, adn then for the oil pando i gotta let all the oil drain out first before taking out the pan? becuz im thinking that if i unbolt it oil will just come out everywhere and shiiet. How do i check if its not my pistons? manually crank it right? and its just a single like click noise followed by 3 quieter clicks and it stops. and when i put the head back i throw a bit of oil down the spark plug holes and then put the TB back, it SHOULD just turn on right?

btw nah i didn't make a hole i just don't have a splash guard, or mud flaps.
