I have a few questions;
The engine light came on with a P0420 code. I bought this car a month and half ago with 86K miles, the engine light showed up when I ran the car to 91K miles.
The state inspection was perform by the dealer, could be the posibility that they sold me the car already broken? or about to break up? Could the car pass the inspection with a possible defected catalyst?
The car was defect when I picked it up, the ignition was broken. The first time they checked it, they told me something else and the car was suppouse to be ok. At the next day it was giving me the same problem. So they decided to change the ignition because I found that if I move the key while is running the engine shot off. Ii it the ignition include on the inspection, or could this problem be detected on the state inspetion.

Check with the dealership for extended warranty and ignition switch recall.
They can run a VIN status inquiry, to see if you are covered

 

Switch out the downstream (catalytic convertor) oxygen sensor. I had same code with the same mileage.

 

i have the same problem. except my cat is only about 3 months old and my O2 is less than a week old. same code. same car.
