Default Help with axle removal

ok guys first off this is my first post but i have been lurking for awhile. Now i followed the sticky for axle removal and got to the point where i need to pry out the axle. Now the drivers side axle slid out perfect, but the passenger side will not budge. I have used all kinds of pry-bars and crow-bars but i just cant get it.

Does anybody have any tips???

try two...i guess. its a bitch to take out but you just have to keep at it, get two bars, slide them in on oposite sides and you want to basically push on the bars, not pull, pulling the bars will only put pressure at an angle(if facing the drivers side of course), hope this helps some

On my honda, I was able to get them both out with a flat head screw driver and a hammer (came out very easily). You may want to try putting a pry bar inbetween the axle and the trans case and tap it with a decent size hammer. It shouldn't be too hard to get out.

On my mazda, I didn't have room for a pry bar so I had to pull like crazy and cuss up a storm before I could get it to come out.

If you haven't got it out yet, then you might be doing something wrong. I know axles can be a pain in the butt to get out, but only when you can't get leverage to pry on it. And you shouldn't have to pry on it that hard to get it to pop off.

If you are replacing the axle that you are trying to take out, then try grabbing the shaft (of the driveaxle) and jerking it in and out very rapidly. Sit down like a catcher or on your knees and push in as far as it will go (into the trans case) and jerk it out real hard (like you are playing tug-o-war). Rapid in and outs have always worked for me when I could not get a prybar between the driveaxle and trans case. (just make sure when/if you get it out, that you make sure the clip didn't come off in the trans case)

You could always take some pics of your situation and make a note where you are prying...maybe we could tell from the pics if something isn't right.

well im pulling the axle out to change the clutch. And if there is an easier way to do this then by all means tell me (such as not removing the axles to get to it.). But i do not want to break he axle b/c i am not replacing it just removing it.

You'll need to remove the axles.

Question...Have you removed the 32mm axle nut yet? If you're having this hard of a time with getting the driveaxle out of the trans, I don't see how in the world you broke the axle nut loose!

....I don't know what to tell you then...The hardest part is getting that axle nut loose and rest is downhill from there.

Keep trying though...turn driveaxle a few turns and try to pry again. It may help to use one hand to pry and the other to pull at the same time. You could maybe make sure the driveaxle if parallel to the ground and not leaning down while you are prying, b/c that could cause it to be a little tight, maybe...

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=382416 Go down to step 13 and make sure you are prying in the right spot.

Keep trying...one way or another it should come out.

this isnt true ... if the axle has been in the tranny for a long time its gonna be a bitch to get out sometimes.. when i replaced my engine i couldnt get the axle out for the life of me.. the one side came out fine cuz i replaced it the year before. but i ended up ripping the cv boot to take the engine and tranny out.

X2... I just replaced both of my axles last month and the tool ("pickle fork") also known s a ball joint separator works very well on stubborn axles!
Good Luck!!

Its the damn (snap)ring around the end of the axle inside the tranny

Keep trying, and make sure you replace the snap ring when you put an axle back in.

I have had to go through the other side (the hole where the other shaft came out) with a long type tool (pointed pry bar or screwdriver)and hammer / punch it out. The 2nd shaft will come out, but then the tool you used gets a little stuck in there, but this method has worked for me. good luck

alright ive been in ur situation before and spent nearly 3 or 4 hours trying to take that s.o.b. out.

That being said this is what u need to do:

1. find a hammer
2. grab cylindrical piece or metal or sumthing strong.
3.put the metal piece on an angle against the end of the axel right next to the tranny
4. smack that bitch with 1 good hit and its out.

i'm sorry, what does this have to do with ball joint boots? he is talking about using the pickle fork to pry out the axle from the transmission.

Sorry I did not read what he put, that tool is to pry ball joints. Use a big screw driver and pop it out

9seriously, just pull and jiggle that s.o.b. till your arms go numb and then do it some more. just stick with it and it will slide out like nothing and you'll wonder what you did to make it so easy. w-d40, pry bars, and a hammer/mallet (i couldn't jack it up far enough to hit it with a hammer/mallet) will get the job done as long as you stick with it. i tried using an arm puller for my driver side but the forks on the bar were too thick, so i just pulled and pried with a flat head as much as i could then it popped out eventually.

...just stick with it and stay determined bro and it'll come out.
