Anyone build a flat platform in the rear instead of having interior?
My rear interior sucked so I took out the seats and rear carpet. Now I saw on ebay a platform made out of MDF that went flat acrossed the back. I travel a lot so I thought this would be nice and easy for loading and unloading. If anybody has a picture that would be nice or it would be real nice if you have a design with the cut angles already laid out. Thanks
i had one for a little while in my hatch. i made it out of what i remember to be 1/4" HDF. i then covered it with a big *** piece of ozite. it was moderately light and worked pretty well. i was trying different things with MDF feet and i eventually cut a hole in the middle to deal with the middle rear seat anchor thing that sticks up and it was never right after that. it ended up warping a bit so i took it out. if i had put some sort of strengthening gussets on the bottom, just some add'l 1/4" rails stapled on that ran widthwise, it might have kept it from deforming.
none to speak of. but to be honest it's just a way bigger version of the thing that comes stock over your spare tire. picture that, but covering the entire rear area, cut to fit, covered in ozite with a square hole in the middle about 2"x4". there you have it! lol
just search on ebay. i think i used "2 civic rear" as my keywords. they want some money for it though

hmm, can't find anything like it on ebay.

that is very similar to what i made, but mine sat lower, was no where near as a tight fit as that one, and mine didn't have access panels.
ill tell you what tho, that is a very nice piece!
i'd venture to guess you could make one that would be very close to that for a fraction of the cost. a big sheet of mdf, a tape measure, pencil, stapler, a jigsaw, sand paper, glue and ozite!

wat i did inmy hatch was i bought alot of foam around 2/2' 1 1/2'' thick squares at walmart then i got mdf for the tire area made a template out of cardboard then traced it on mdf fitted it then i stripped the rear lower seat built it up with foam and had an extra 6in of foam hang off the back to hide the hook for the upper part of the factory seat i covered the modded rear seat in black marine carpet from home depot then i finnishe the rear mdf by building up the foam to the hight of the front section and covered it with black carpet mine was a bit of a pain bc i had a rollcage to deal with but looked great all level and made it quieter jus remeber to have a flap off the back seat so u dont see the hook in the middle
that wouldnt be very hard to build at all. the hardest part would be laying the carpet and still thats not that hard. just go find yourself a few big cardboard boxes, and cut and trim till you get it nice and clean then use those templates to transfer the design onto some wood, and your set. i would use a halfinch sheet of mdf, a little stronger, and dont have to worry about it warping any.
