Well, it is the same car as a 96-00 Civic sedan except is has an Acura badge...it has a d16y8 (same as canadian Si or american Ex), it has an uglier front end, and costs more money.
Acura 1.6 EL = FTL

The ugliness is purely personal, and has no bearing.
As for the same car? Yeah, the chassis is the same ....
But it has a different climate control (that requires different wiring and a different dash shell and dash frame), it has the option for leather seats, it has a different rear end (trunk and tail lamps), different rear bumper, different optional wheels, a different steering wheel, different cluster, has amber lighting, different front end, the option for heated seats, different radio, a stock amplifier (and Acoustic Feedback System), it has anti-lock brakes, it has a wiper fluid "low" sensor, a different shifter console, a different 12v panel (with pocket/accessory slot), a clock, different mirrors, a rear-glass antenna ....
Yah, same car.

Ummm... what?
So you like the Acura 1.6EL (which is based on the '96-'00 Civic sedan) but you like the Civic when it has the Honda Domani front end, which is essentially the same as the 1.6EL front end.
THe EL is basically a much nicer version of the Civic EX sedan (EJ8).

Jeez, Eran.
I was speaking about the chassis. It is relatively the same car, with an Acura badge. That badge brings more options, but a higher cost. For a car like this, the Civic is a smarter choice. If you want nice rims and heated seats, you are looking at the wrong Acura.

I'd love one. Most Acuras are too big for me. Plus I don't like the look as much. I only wish it had a coupe version.
If you want the creature comforts and don't want a boat (as far as a Honda of that generation is concerned), then this is a great car. If you pan to strip the interior and pretend it's a race car, keep looking.

Relatively ... except for the fact that 90% of America wouldn't be able to say "Hey, that looks like a civic with a different front end and rear end." It is different enough to not even be an EK/EJ.
For all intents and purposes, it's a 3rd-gen Integra to a 5th-gen Civic. Interchangeable parts, but a different car.

Fine.
Atleast this discussion produced better info for the OP than most of these h-t morons could provide saying "CIVIC FTW!"
I'd still get a TL Type-S though...I can't see a point buying the more expensive Acura with the same fuel-sipping 1.6L single-cam engine as a Civic.

Which TL Type S would be in that price range? The first year for the TL Type-S was 2002.
They Bluebook between $12,025-16,125.

Boo to boring old '99-'00 front ends that almost always look the same. I'm tired of seeing '99-'00 OEM front lips and Mugen lips. Si or CTR grill possibly with CTR headlights. Wow, original. Might want to get some sidemarkers to really stand apart from the crowd.

Good Christ, 99-00 FTW bandwagoners again.
My vote? I'd say the 1.6 EL with leather seats if you can find one. And then you'll have something most people don't. An "original" Honda.
