Default looking to get an ep3... need some advice

so i've found this 2002 civic si for $8900 with 62400 miles on it. it already has some sort of lip kit i believe, an injen intake, and some sort of exhaust, can't really tell which one. i was just wondering if this seemed to be a good deal. the blue book value is way above that, but i'm curious if there are any recurring problems in these cars? any help would be greatly appreciated. thank you. it can be found here: http://earthycars.com/used_veh...6f677

They are nice cars, first off, I would take off that lip kit and find the oem one because that one looks kind of wierd and the mid wing on the back needs to go also.

Swap the tail lights for the 04-05 spec and get the 04-05 spec side skirts and swap that e brake handle and that shift boot and **** it looks, they are a wierd red

otherwise, good buy the only downside with an ep3, is the mods are sort of expensive and limited so, choose wisely

Go for it. You might get tired of seeing that every mod available always stops at 2000 Si. But that just makes you unique. Everyone has those cars. EP3s aren't as common. And no other honda looks like them so you get no imitators.

looks like a good buy. I kinda like the side skirt, at least better than without it.
I dont like that little ring spolier on the hatch thats just weird. I would get it, has low miles too

the Blacked-Out headlight on ONLY the drivers side had me worried... ?

but the red shift **** and handbrake gives it away... this car was Driven Hard by Someone!

that's a great price, if its clean- NO Accidents (The frames bend because of the unibody construction)
NO Rental, Lease, Fleet Vehicle etc... (A lot of these EP3's went to these places... few went to the average joe! ...i found out when i started looking at them years ago!)

if you check its Vehicle History, and it's good, that should be a decent buy!
i paid $12,9 for my '02 last spring- with 43,000 miles on it- 1 owner! ...He dumped thousands into it, mainly to make it a showcar...
he wasn't a mechanic, so all the work done was installed by tuner shops...
it runs like a TOP!, and handles like a Ferrari!

some say i did NOT get a "deal"! ...but i think i got a deal at $13K- if only for the peace of mind that i know where it's been, and i knew it was CLEAN!

do your homework, the EP3 is not for everyone!
i like them, because they can be FAST, with the practicality of a civic-
grocery getter, kid getter, good gas, and best of yet... Cheap Insurance!

(ps. if you want a real race car, your not going to find one for $9K! This is why this could be a good deal for you!)

Hah. I paid 16K for my EP3 this summer with 33,000 miles on it. Most people said I was screwed but i have no credit, got 6 percent interest and they gave me 1000 bucks for my 89 civic.

It was worth it to me. That's all that matter.

Oh that's right... the "CONS"
1. SOME People hate them, or want you to have it look like every other stock one on the planet...
2. MODS are more expensive, STOCK parts are harder to find- or more expensive in some cases (the EP3's were all made in the UK!)
3. Its Fast! ...but it's not that fast! -so dont go reving next to any Vipers or Vettes... that's not cool!
(i learned the hard way! )
4. Shift Grinding! ...Get used to it, or do manual transmission flushes regularly!
5. if lowered, you get a steering creak when turning... this bothers some, i don't notice it.
--- that's all i can think of--- the PRO's outweigh the CON's for me!

I say do it, they are a bit under powered but very easy to modify and fun to drive.

or try it "riced!" ...chromatically! in 3-D!
see, on my car, i think the clear lenses are better... gives more spaciousness and depth

...the red BLOBS didn't look as riced, but IMHO they looked dull and lifeless -TO ME!

...to each his own!

someone told me to have fun with condensation on the clear-lense, but it hasn't been a problem at all!
(i did have a spider web in one, and it looked funny, so i popped out the bulb, chased him out, and cleaned it up!)

if you haven't scooped up a title search yet, DO IT!
LET US KNOW WHAT HAPPENED!

The price seems good. Run a carfax on it and make sure it isn't a salvagable ride. Good luck.

I agree, the shift grinding does suck, but you get used to it. Everything else about this car is well worth it, I love mine. But, like WyldRice said, Ep's are not for everyone. Do your homework and find out how much the mods you wanna do are going to cost you. And do it right the first time, BUY QUALITY PARTS, no cheap parts.

I have however beaten a few Type-Ss, FG Sis, a Mugen Si, numerous SS Supercharged Cobalts, older M3s, etc., so they are reasonably quick.

I change the tranny fluid every 10K miles and have never had a gear grind during shifting (except when once I pulled off the clutch before I had it in gear completely)

Overall, A great car with no respect.

Bolt ons, a custom reflash, and good driving.

Thanks for keeping us updated... but i'm not surprised that it disappeared at that price.

the last '03 i saw at the honda dealership had a $13,9 price tag on it, But...
1. it was a Certified Used Honda (warranty extended on it)
2. it was completely stock (as far as everything visible, except tires!)
3. it had 43K miles on it (probably traded in right after factory warranty expired)
4. clean... not a scratch, dent, or ding!

it was there for about 4 days, then disappeared... (i'm not sure if or how much they came down from that price?)

So, keep looking! these kind of deals are out there, but you have to be willing to look for a while.
and BUYER BEWARE!
1. Always START with a vehicle report! (it eliminates the bad apples FASTEST! -flood damage, etc!)

it may have been a great deal, but if you purchased it without a vehicle report, you may have saved yourself a lot of headaches!

picked up my 05 for 14k flat before taxes etc 6 months ago with 34k. With the extra 10k mile warranty (suspected it was driven hard because of clutch/trans) and tax it brought me to 15.2kish i believe. That seems like a REALLY good buy.

wow...it's so much cheaper in the states to pick up an EP3...they're pretty hard to find in ON/Canada so we can't be too picky w/pricing here...got mine for 17k$ (cdn) with 1.5-2yrs warranty left, stock (or from what i can tell nothing has been done to it--it was really detailed tho!!), head mechanic of a honda dealership owned it so it can't be that bad...lol

but as somebody noted above, these go very quickly (especially the white ones i find ) so keep looking it took me over a year to find me one and she happen to be WHITE  picked her up the same day i saw it posted online b/c i already missed out on 2 other white ones previously.

good luck ^_____^

My reason for questioning is because most view the 02-03 tails as the better of the two.

Red/white > Euro/chrome/amber
