TWM ITB's vs Complete Skunk2 / AEM setup (which to choose, 100 dollar difference????)
I plan to build a weekend Street pump gas all motor build:
I already have a B18c5 motor thats getting a tear down, i bought the motor in peices so im not tearing apart a "perfect" type R....
Im thinking:
Between 12:1 - 12:5:1 CP
Benson sleeves 84mm
LS Crank
Manley Rods
Hytech header
JUN3's
Lasky racing valvetrain
Hondata s300
just basics....
I was putting together a comparative figure of buying all "brand new" parts for an intake setup here are the price ranges that i came up with:
Intake manifold Setup Vs TWM ITBs
Skunk2 Pro intake Manifold = 242.59 (nolimitmotorsport.com)
Skunk2 Billet Throttle Bodies = 266.00 (nolimitmotorsport.com)
Skunk2 Racing Fuel Rail (Carbon Composite) = 179.82 (nolimitmotorsport.com)
BLOX Fuel Pressure Regulator = 55.00 (Bbay Brand new)
Precision Injectors = 232.00 (nolimitmotorsport.com)
AEM 3inch HYbrid CAI = 225.63 (nolimitmotorsport.com)
AEM bypass = 44.96 (nolimitmotorsport.com)
Total = $1,246.00 (Total Brand New)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
VS.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
TWM 2000 Series ITB Setup = $1,355.99 (Ebay Brand new)
- Includes high capacity -10 fuel rail and adjustable pressure regulator which flows up to 700 lb/hr.
Four individual throttles.
Four injectors included. Our injector position is optimized for maximum horsepower. We can supply the unit without injectors if requested.
Our billet linkage included.
TWM full radius air horns included.
All kits have integral vacuum accumulators.
What intake setup would you choose and why?

Okay, so you like to spend money.
ITBs are tricky to set-up and tune. I've never seen them out perform a good manifold.
Why not get a performerX, professional product TB, a AEM fuel pressure regulator, and a stock fuel rail. That will cost a lot less and give you as good if not better results.
Also, this motor would be a good candiate for some Pro2s and a VJ and port job.

i see it still coming out to around the same price, and with a good tuner i dont see why the ITB's cant be set up running good with the s300 ITB tables that ive been reading about?
Lol and no I hate spending money i was just using retail prices to to show the comparison i know i can buy a used setup for very cheap either way. i was just seeing that the price was not much of a difference if you decide to go either way and ive always wanted to try ITBs but have been scared too

I would stick with an intake manifold if it is a daily driver. That makes everything more reliable, & no stupid little drivability problems that will drive you mad. Just my 2 cents!

Not to mention you won't stink like gasoline every time you drive it.

i had zero problems and i daily drove itbs for over a year , got over 25mpg on the hiway , and never smelt like gas . lol
and i dont thikn they will make more peak power then a manifold , but very close and have a "fatter" powerband with most comparisons iv have seen ,
oh and the sound is totally worht it

everyone keeps saying all these driveability issues, but has everyone really had experience with it?
i havent yet, but i will have my experience soon, i just need to do my fuel setup, and my 50mm twm's will be up and running.
talk to d-rob or integratype-r they both went from itb's to a performer x and tb setup again.
personally i went with itb's because i wanted the fat powerband, and midrange, not the high end power i was getting from my manifold setup. im hoping to see very very good mid range and useable street power with the itb's and my pro1's.

My point exactly i all i hear is he said this and i heard that. That's what made me scared to get them on past builds because i heard this and he said that lol... I want to hear from people who have had experience with them driving daily, even though its going to be a weekend car. Its not going to be a track car, I just want a fun car!

put it this way....the two peopl ei listed will gladly talk to you about them
d-rob got rid of his itb's because he had some weird driveability issues, some of which may have been attributed to having no AIC (dont quote me on that) so it never cold idled etc. i also think he had issues always breaking return springs, so his were sticking alot. but again he can give you more info.
integratype-r drove his and they absolutely ripped, and its now the set i own. they had no sticking issues, and made great power according to him, they just need to be vacuum calibrated.
both these guys switched over to a performer x and intake/tb for different reasons and seem to have good success, so its really up to what you want to do. ill see if i can dig up the thread i had trying to make my decision.

Its not he said and i heard. 2 people have already been mentioned with first hand experience, Integra Type-R and D-Rob. And with me , you can add a third to the list. There are part throttle issues, noise issues, sticky throttle issues, and youre peak power WILL be down vs a good manifold. Thats not a maybe, it WILL.
From reading your post it seems as if you really just want someone to tell you to go ahead and do the ITB's.

Thanks guys for the information you have provided me. I have decided that the ITB's are not for me. I am just going to go with the standard Intake Manifold setup like "mar778c" suggested and make power that way.

haha thats how i used to be. then i drove for 1k miles on my intake setup and decided i didnt like to be running above 7k to make all my power. and decided that with my future setup and plans for use of the car itb's would be worth trying. then i was patient and got a killer deal

dude didn't you heard... HT is th place for repeating info even if it is wrong... sorry you haven't catch that

I'm not going to sit and tell u that everythings easy with itbs because its not, the truth about it is.. simple.
If the ITBS are carbsynced using the correct tool, tuning should be pretty damn easy... if everything that's suppose to be vacced is, and everything is hooked up correctly, tuning is easy..
I slapped the itbs on, did a **** poor street tune in about 2 hours.. and i drove them on that tune until i gave em away..
They made power.. its pretty obviouse because i was walking people before that were beating me..and the car wasn't ever fully tuned, using crome pro i had some minor issuses with the tps setup.. i didn't have access to ectune at the time..
The itbs carried just like the OG skunk2 manifold did, which was port matched to my head..I got the performer X NOT just because of problems with the itbs, i told nat i had on order the carbsync tool, i wasn't going to get rid of them but i wanted a new setup. the setup on this car changes every our 8 months and i have had these itbs for about 7 months almost.. The performerX for me was a better choice for a few reasons, no sticking for one.. the idle was steady, and the power felt the same...thats my reasons.. i tuned, installed, and put the itbs on my car. Saying from first hand experince i loved them, but they weren't they were all cracked up to be because my motor is still 81mm 1.8.. on something more modded i believe they'll shine..besides.. after the feeling i got from driving my car in the first time in 3 months with the new setup.. i was breaking both tires loose threw the first 3 gears like there were no tires..
itbs are good for midrange and useable power.. FIX the problems.. Have a good itb setup.. dont half *** it like everyone else..
