How to Avoid Being the Ghetto Ricer
No disrespect to anyone, really, because we all start somewhere... But why don't people plan ahead when they modify imports? If you're going to be the fastest ricer on the block, don't expect a mission accomplished by slapping on a 4" fart can and a K&N filter.
Just like any fast car, building a motor requires a lot more than an $800 plastic turbo kit on Ebay, and memorizing The Fast & The Furious. They used $80,000 cars for that movie. You won't accomplish the same thing by cutting corners.
But please, guys, all I'm asking is that you take others into consideration when you're starting from scratch. I know it's tough, especially on a budget, but try not to get ahead of yourself.
- Please don't give tuners a bad name by being a total *** on the road. Save it for the track. You're the reason cops follow me everywhere, and I don't appreciate it.
- Don't buy a body kit if you can't afford to paint it. It looks a lot worse than it did stock --- furthermore, please don't buy body kits that don't have an aerodynamic purpose. For your sake, and everyone else's.
- Don't be stupid. 200hp can be achieved 20 different ways for under $500. However, when you find out that 200hp doesn't fill your needs, you're going to have to take it all out and buy more expensive parts that actually work, thus wasting $500. Trust me, it happens all the time.
- Get a few books. Specifically: basic engine theory, the dynamics of combustion physics, and about 8 or 10 others that will thoroughly educate you in performance upgrades AND provide an adequate knowledge of how an engine works.
- Spend money reading before you put a single penny into anything else. It'll save you a TON of money down the road. I know this from experience.
- The fart can thing was never in style, and it's a giant homing beacon for the fuzz. Try Borla. Or even a nice knockoff. Exhaust isn't going to hurt your performance that much until after about 300hp.
- Tell your friends, so they don't make the same mistakes.
Thanks for reading.
