So I heard that Nason is Duponts fleet paint. Is this paint worth a damn if shot by a good painter? Also what’s the time frame of lasting?

 

Nason isn't that bad. The shine is not as much as Duponts other clears but pretty close. Does not really have much depth though.
Not sure on how it will hold up. I can have a panel be painted for 3 days and when I go to buff it, it is still very soft. That is not a good thing. After 3 days with Duponts higher end clears, I can go buff the panel and it will take me longer to buff because it is stronger. The clear has cured faster.
If I paint another car of mine, I will most likely go for the better of Duponts clears but would not mind the Nason clear. It is like 200 cheaper LOL. For the price I don't think you can go wrong with that clear.

 

my painter gave me the choice to go with the chroma, or the nason. i picked the nason it was a 100 bucks cheaper. my painter said he has always had great results with Nason. here is my bill

i think the base is ok but as for painting a car with the clear id always pay extra for the higher grade

There is nothing wrong with nason, like any other paint material how long it last depends on a few factors. How well the prep was done, if the correct matierals are used, and how its taken car of after the fact.

I take it your not using a fast reducer? If not you should, after 3 days and your clear is too soft than either your using the wrong reducer or the conditions are way to cold.

Well it's not like leave a fingerprint soft. More like I only need one pass with the buffer to buff a spot out when in comparison to Chroma clear wich takes 2 passes to buff out. Sometimes 3 with dark colors. Correct reducer is used and good temps.
I actually looked at the ingrediants on the can of Chroma and Nason. There were really only like 2 differences. My painter at work thinks that Dupont just relabeled their old clear as Nason and came out with their newer Chroma or Euro clear. Wichever it was.
That is what they did with their primers. I think in one year they had changed primers like 3 times. The Nason primer is just Duponts old line of primer. Atleast that is my take on it. Just missing some ingreadiants to save them money.

actully i think nason clear are some pretty darn good clear for some cheap clear. just gotta know how to lay it down flat and wet.

 

would a nason base coat and a dupont clear be a good choice?

look up at the pics i posted...

the base coat is nason and the clear is Dupont chromabase clear...

If you have alot of experiance with the Nason clear it can be really nice too...just have to know how to lay it smooth

 

i use nason everyday at work. the only bad thing i find with it, it is too thin you can almost paint it right out of the can. i do really like there high soilds clear though, gives off a really good shine and it is easy to sand the next day to buff

 

Nason is a good paint as long as you are painting an entire car. their paints are not good for blend jobs, so if your painting an entire car ... USE IT... if not ,don't.. a finished paint job is only as good as the buff and wax

 

Here's my fenders off my festiva. I used Nason base coat clear coat. Went on very nice, no runs and has held up well for a few years now.

 

like most pro would say, they are FINE for whole car repaint.

the cheaper paint(omni/shopline or nason) will be harder to do spot repaint, they don't cover as well as the better stuff(chromebase, DBC,etc).

I personally use chromabase and BDC over those just for the better coverage and time factor, it doesn't really cost that much consider the price different vs overall finish.

again, not dissing the guys on budge spray(or cheap customer, tell me about it..lol), they are what they are and do pretty good at what they do for the price

you are right on the money, but you can not compare omni clear to nason's high soilds clear

 

is it hard to spot repair if your using the same paint you used on the car. I bought 1 gal so i should have plenty left.

 

As long as you give yourself enough room to blend out the color, you should have no problems. It really depends on one's skill level regarding whats hard or easy. If its a heavy metallic and your trying to keep the repair too small, you might have a hard time if you don't have much experience. If you have plenty of room and your clearing the whole panel it should be pretty easy. At least you won't have to worry about getting a close enough color match.
