Default What are proper care techniques for Carbon Fiber?

Ok, i just got a carbon fiber spoiler for my civic and I was wanting to know what I need to do to keep it from peeling and chipping. I've seen carbon fiber that people didn't properly take care of and the clear coat is all peeling and cracking off. I just dont want mine to do the same. Is there a certain type of wax i need to use? Thanks for the help...

Treat it like paint, wash and wax. I use NXT wax, the best I have found so far.

if i had cf on my car, i would prep and coat it with ppg clear coats ( 3 wet coats ). cf gets hazy. buffing will help also.

If you don't take care of it. If you wash and wax it like paint, clay bar and buff as needed, clean up bird ****, clean up tree sap, park under cover when possible it will be fine.

This is what you really should do:

Wet sand it and get it clear coated. The gel coat that it comes with is absolute crap, thats why you see it peeling and whatnot.

that is 100% false.

From a moderator on the Meguiars forum:

Hey,

I am afraid, that is incorrect. Meguiar's #21 is a completely new product. So while it shares similarities and traits between #20 Polymer Sealant and Meguiar's NXT Tech Wax, Meg's #21 is a unique product.

</TD></TR></TABLE>

so you can stop spreading false info now, thanks.

I said basically the same not exactly the same, not spreading false info if the person can read. In your quote it even says they share similarities and traits, thanks for proving my point.

A quote from a moderator at Autogeek (Quoting a moderator doesn't prove **** but since you started with one)

"#21 is essentially NXT with better durability and has some light cleaners (kaolin)."

If you don't want to order stuff, NXT is the best thing you are going to find. I have #21 and NXT and I don't notice much of a difference in durability, and a slight difference in looks. I can't speak for the revised formulas though. If you want to order stuff, there are a lot of products that are better and easier to use then NXT and #21.

that moderator was later corrected in that thread. I have both, #21 has a completely different consitency, is purple and bubbly, and lasts longer than NXT.

Mike Phillips who is a moderator on the meguiars forum and also works for meguiars, said it is a completely different formula.

LOL I am not sure how much easier it can get than those two products. they go on easy and come off like butter. and my #21 protected truck sheeted water away with ease 4 months later in the killer florida sun.

yep if you want something local the nxt and #21 are a good choice. I like the #21 myself over nxt but was told the new nxt 2.0 last as long as the #21 so ill have to try that next time

#21 has been recently reformulated as well. it now has polyphonic technology like the ultimate quick detailer. and nxt 2.0 ( i think the 2.0 does)
