Default Overheating Issue

Sup guys

Got a weird issue here...Ok, so to start from the beginning...Summer of 06 i replaced my thermostat, it was shot...i did it in a parking lot and after i did it, it worked fine...well a few months later the damn thing started overheating again, and this time i have a different issue...of course, i think its the thermostat, because when im sitting at a light waiting it overheats, not all the time but sometimes...then i noticed tonight on my ride home from a friends house, that when the heat is on, it is blowing cold air when I am not moving, and this only happens some of the time. The car is completely warmed up and it only blows hot air when I am sitting....now my mechanic told me it could be a hot air bubble because me and my friend half assed the filling of the coolant, even though it had plenty...i dont think it is...I am left with thinking it is my water pump but have NO clue about water pump failures and the symptoms I would have...if anyone has any idea to save me some money, post on here please! Thanks boys!

Check your fan, make sure its working and that it turns on properly. Does your idle change at all, like does it idle higher in the RPMs? If it does check your throttle body and stuff for dirt and clean it all off. My friend had that problem and it would idle at like 2000 or 3000 rpm at time and start over heating. The heating problem def. could be caused by a huge air bubble in your cooling system; try having your car warm up from being totally cold with the radiator cap off. You can usually get most of the air out that way.

Just an update...the car is fine now, my mechanic and I today, during inspection and emissions, found out there was a small leak in the upper radiator hose because the clamp was not tight enough and there was a missing bolt into the thermostat...so fixed that, added a crapload of coolant and the thing runs colder than ice...thanks for all of your help guys!
