What else do you have done to the car? If its stock, an IM is probably not the best thing to do first.

IF you want to get a new mani i suggest getting ur ECU chipped right away too. Get a SKUNK2 Intake manifold, i am running my car with one and they are great. That will (dont quote me) take out the secondaries from what i hear and when u chip it u can have a nice vtec crack at whatever RPM u want it to.

Why would you even get a skunk2 or aftermarket manifold if you don't even know the pros and cons of getting one? And why would you just chip your ecu to "have a nice vtec crack at whatever RPM you want it to". If you don't have vtec set at the correct point you will lose power.

i was thinking bout taking out the secondarys and puting in a little bit more fuel with a fuel pressure regluator since ima have more air coming in, but im wondering if that will affect my low end torque? maybe even lose some horsepower, any one hered of this?

secondary intake runners are in place to salvage low end torque, lose them, you lose the low end. but you gain high, thats what ive learned anyway.

you'll definitely lose low end if you remove the butterflies.. its 10-15hp in some places, but you'll gain a bit up high. I really don't recommend doing this unless you've done other mods to the car first, and get ecu tuning afterward.

Really, what you'd want to do, is get other mods first, and then some aftermarket cams along with an aftermarket single runner intake manifold, and get it tuned.

If you don't want to do all that (or are just going with minor mods), I'd keep the stock manifold intact.

all my buddys with gsr's hate the factory manifold, they all switched to skunk2 or blox.

If you don't have supporting mods, DON'T DO IT. I'm telling you this because I made the mistake and it sucks for anything under 5000RPM.

man you guys must have something wrong with ur gsr's, i have a gsr teg with blox IM and I/H/E with a jdm type r ecu, my car is wayyyyy faster then with the gsr IM and i havent noticed a drop in bottom end, now my vtec gives me a little jump when i hit vtec and pulls way stronger than with the gsr IM so beofre you all talk have you had any experience? cuz mine was great, my car is faster than before, now imagine if i get cams, tune, etc. o and btw you dont lose 10-15 hp just by getting rid of the stock IM thats just a bunch of from a noob! ps my jdm r ecu, vtec hits at 6k which is perfect, gives me like a lil boost/jump, it just feels quicker and no draw backs from getting the BLOX IM

I can almost guess that the majority of this is from a slow down in air speed due to the shorter runners. Of course shorter runners support RPM better, I'm really wanting to hear from someone who has a stock motor with bolt ons like an air filter, header and cat back and see what happens with a performer x. Physics say it should be better than the ITR-skunk in the mid-range because of the longer runners. I've seen quite a few dynos on that manifold but they were all on higher compression, cammed, ported head combos. In general smaller longer runners are good for low rpm performance and shorter fatter ones for higher rpm. The performer long/fat mix seems to work great on the NA builds i've looked at, just wonder what it would do on a fairly stock combo. Does anyone have any dyno time to share?

Yeah well sorry ive got an LS block with I/H/E and full tuning so for me the s2 is a lot better haha, I think u should first get the I/H/E then the IM and atleast chip the ECU if not a full tune.

he was talking about putting on a single runner intake (like blox/S2/edelbrok), he's talking about taking the butterflies out of the stock GSR dual runner manifold and using it that way, which I don't recommend.

I dynoed my old GSR with and without butterflies in the stock IM, and it lost a considerable amount of power below 5500rpm. An aftermarket IM is better than that.

Get the performerX single runner IM for the most power
