Default What makes this happen???

I seem to have a loss of power when going into second gear. When I put it in second and try to punch it, there seems to be nothing there. Now I do have a
1995 Civic EX with a B16A and LS trans. Would the trans be the cause of this?
I have the timing adv alittle.

Also, do any of you have the problem of the dizzy leaking oil even when you replace the O-ring?

Thanks for any help.........

Well the LS trans does have the longer gears, so it would take a bit longer to go through the rev band....but to have "nothing there" is the b16's fault

It's only a 1.6 lol

B16 Are Rev Happy motors so, thats why it could feel weird with the longer gears from the shorter ones

Maybe it's me, but I thought it was fine before.

I know what you mean about the B16A not having any tq, but it's like a power loss, kind of a bogging feeling.

Anyway, any info on the Dizzy O-RING?

Was it a new o-ring you replaced the old one with? Where else could the oil be coming from...?

The cam seal is fine it's an aftermarket cam seal not rubber.

I put in a factory dizzy o-ring, but after like a day of driving there is oil running down the front of the motor. At first I thought it was the head gasket but you can see the oil build up on all the sensors under the dizzy.

when are you changing to second?
what rpm are you revving to?
i can imagine with a ls tranny you're probably falling out of vtec, so yeah, thats probably the problem.

i wouldn't be surprised if you'd have to rev to 7-7.5 to keep it in vtec going to second.

It's very hard to rev high with this tranny. Feels like the power band is falling out at 7500. I got it to 8200 before but The motor sounded like it was going to blow up!!!

When I had the NOS on the car is could rev up just fine.

But the power is not there no matter when I change gears, and yes it always falls out of v-tec.

sounds like you have other issues then, a b16 shouldn't have any problems revving to 8.

i saw your crx build thread, i really miss my crx....

but anyway do you only feel the power loss after changing gears, or does it not feel the same at the top of all gears?

there is also an inner seal in the dizzy that's more like a miniature cam/crank/rear main seal. it'll get the inside of the dizzy wet with oil if it leaks badly enough. if you pop the cap off and look inside with a flashlight you should be able to see oil down in there.

I'll do that, but you can see it running down the head. It's not a lot, but I am still sick of it.

It's not as fast as I think a B16 should be, My CRX feels way better!!! Rev to 8 like nothing and it has an Ls tranny as well. What should I be looking for to start trouble shooting? Comps is fine by the way.

Thanks for looking at my build............

maybe a clutch problem? Is it only second gear that does this? Fishy problem...I'd say strap the NOS back on and be done with it.

I had something like this happen once and it was just the clutch slipping...it would only do it in second as well....I just adjusted the cable and it was fine.

You may be right on that.........

I did something really dumb, I put in a new ACT clutch and flywheel and did not clean the suffuse. So now I get clutch chatter like a mo fo. If I ever need to ride the clutch you can smell it burning really bad.

Not sure if this explains the motor not wanting to rev as high as it should.

I can just have the clutch and flywheel re-suffused right, and buy a new clutch disc?

See, the first problem is that you're driving the civic in the first place, instead of being at home working on the crx. j/k

Yeah, sounds like a weird problem. It only "bogs" in second gear????

And as far as the clutch, you may be able to get by with just resurfacing the flywheel and not replace the clutch. But not sure about this, i'd wait and have a better answer on that before going out and getting a new one.

BTW, the new DA i got, had a new clutch in it and i have the same problem. Sometimes, the chatter is so bad, it feels like the whole dash is gonna rattle loose and fall into my lap.

lol, yeah that is how mine is.

I think I can also just get a new clutch disc and resurface the flywheel and the psi plate.

I am pulling this motor soon to put the turbo on so maybe I'll find out then.
