clutch cable issue
ok i searched about my issue but all i found was guys snapping their clutch cables.......my problem is that i have both da and ef clutch cables and the da clutch cable bracket but i barelyyy put the cables in on the trans and through the bracket and its raised allll the way to the top and when i try to drive the car, it releases at the very top..basically burning my clutch.....so my question is what clutch cable bracket to use and what clutch cable for a 1990 ef with a b16 cable tranny??....need help quick please
So let me understand this you have both a DA and an EF clutch cable and neither of them will give you the adjustment that you need? I ask because I am in a similiar situation with my EF, but I dont have a DA cable and am wondering if going to a DA cable would be the solution. I am in for the answer. Quick question what are the lengths of each cable?
i dont know the lengths but the da one is slightly longer but not by a lot at all...i got the ef on in there now on a da clutch bracket and its all the way tight i cant even adjust it its burning my clutch to high heavens and im about to cry because i have never seen anything like this before....neither cable simply fits at all....it just goes in wayyyyy at the top and cant be adjusted

Correct me If I'm wrong, but you have the cable "tightened" all the way? As in, it's pulling the release arm up? Clarify what you mean by "all the way tight"

yes the release arm is all the way up to the point where it cant go up anymore.....and when i try to drive the car the clutch releases all the way at the very top where its literally burning the clutch

As far as I can tell, you're actually using the cable backwards. You need to loosen the plastic screw and move the release arm down, not up. Moving it down will make the clutch release "deeper" into your pedal throw.

im not installing it backwards...what im saying is that either cable i use barely fits...meaning once its in...i cant adjust it at all.....so the only thing in the back of my mind is modifing the bracket bc i cant get any cable to work
the clutch pedal feels stiff as hell...but there is an aftermarket clutch im assuming (i do not know for sure never took the trans off)....but i just took off my clutch bracket and flipped it upside down and now there is only one bolt holding it down but i can this way adjust the cable...so if this works i am going to weld on and modify the clutch bracket bc i have no other solutions right now
don't reverse any brackets or mess with anything, just get the right parts. for it to work correctly and have the right amount of adjustment you need to use the parts for what ever drivetrain you are using. So if you have a b-series then you need to use the Da cable and tranny bracket. same goes if your running d-series drivetrain, you'd use all d-series parts. make sure you route the cable in a way that its not binding for any reason, adjust it to your liking and it should be set.
dude thats my problemmmm i have the da bracket and cable but it dont fit...what so ever....i wish i knew which "parts" to get cause its drivin me nuts....soprry dont mean to sound like a smart *** im just really bummed/pissed

^^^maybe what he is saying is you might be spinning the adjuster nut the wrong way, i remember having trouble with which way to turn it at first. just make sure the release arm is all the way down.
or could you have gotten the wrong cable maybe?

I had the same issue recently. my new ef clutch cable w/new da bracket was too short.
You could mod the cable like i did....
pull the cable apart here.

Take off a 1/2" at a time using a grinder to make the cut. For round 2,3,4, etc...you'll want to use a utility knife to cut the insulation.

use some linesman or side cutting pliers to remove what you just cut. use the knife to remove the outer layer of plastic that inevitabely melted. reinstall the cable in the car and eventually it will fit to your liking and you can adjust it properly.
