Has anyone here done this mod to their gsr trannys? I want to do this but i wanna know is there a very noticable difference in acceleration and is the difference day and night. Opinions would be great thanks!

 

final drives are probably the most under underlooked mods out there, but they make the absolute biggest difference. I have a 4.78 itr lsd tranny on my gsr, had it previously on my LS. It totally changed the characteristic of both engines. it felt like i had a huge difference in power after getting the tranny. the car accelerates much much faster and the torque is increased as well. i think the only other mod that can come close to gains from a short gear tranny would be boost. but yes, a 4.9 will be NIGHT AND DAY difference. your car WILL rip

 

Yep. The transmission will make the biggest difference of all. You'll be happy with the 4.7FD. I think if you are looking to have a big motor that will make power all the way to 10k rpm. than the 4.9FD will be good but if you are just wanting to do a FD upgrade with a motor making power from 8k-9.5k rpm then I would recommend the 4.7FD. Even with the 4.7FD ***** shifts hella quick. you won't be dissappointed.

 

well this gsr is gonna be mated to a built b20vtec so im looking for the best solution. im afraid the 4.928 will have me at 70mph and about 5000rpm lol

yes it will... my homegirl has a an ls with a gsr tranny and she walked a SI... both with just clutch and intake

 

ya final drive does do a big diff, you can get the 4.9 but i think you have to grind the wall of the inside of the tranny to make it work i think but a 4.7 is perfect, 4.9 is really for the drag strip, you will hate the 4.9 final drive on the streets, crusing will suck

 

well the gearing on a gsr already suck so I figured at 4.9 would be great but its just my daily street weekend warrior so I mite settle for the 4.7. This thread is strictly for gsr trannies with upgraded final drives! No itr or b16 allowed LOL

if you guys are all worried about 5th gear and cruzin, just swap in the ls 5th gear for cruzing, my bro had a boosted ls with b16 tranny w/lsd damn gears were so short, but he put an ls 5th gear and cruzing was nice and low rpm's
