Default 4.9 final drive

hey all. Im rebuilding the transmission soon and was wondering if this site is any good. There 4.9 is only like 610 compare to the ATS 800 dollar one. Anyone heard of this site before? And if this final drive is any good.

The PIC final drive looks to be a good one for the money.

The ATS is a little more because it inludes:
- 1st gear 23421-P80-E30
- Distance collar 23914-P80-E3
- Needle bearing 91107-P80-E31

These are not required with the PIC when installing in a USDM ITR transmission.

M-Factory is cheaper, and I've heard great things about both the PIC unit and M-Factory unit.

Here's their webpage, navigate to final drives.

Both MFactory and PIC are good units. I'm not a big fan of ATS due to their manufacturing process of their gears/FD's.

Thanks guys. I think Im going to go with the M-Factory.

So for the people that have gone from the 4.4 to the 4.9, how did you like the difference?

You might want to consider swapping the 4th and 5th to gsr 4th and 5th. It will help freeway driving. 5K rpm @ 80mph can get annoying.

I have a GSR transmission with ATS 1, 3, 4, 5 short gears, ATS 4.9 final drive, and a Quaife LSD. I can be doing 6000 rpm at about 68-70mph, but damn it revs so fast!!! It's fun. I haven't tested the top speed yet, but I wont be surprised if it was close to 100mph.

If some extra RPM's on the highway annoy you then driving an ITR at all would probably annoy you.

Just curiuos, what type of process does ATS use? What type of process does M-factory use?

if you're going from a 4.4 it does make a big difference

coming from a 4.785, i think for the sake of splitting the tranny and spending that much money i'll stick with what i've got.

MFactory gears are forged, ATS is not. Been a while since I've checked though, so ATS might have stepped up.

I chose GEAR-X. Jeff runs a Honda Challenge team which utilizes these final drives. They are forged as opposed to ATS.

Better product and a much lower price.

Does Gear-x make a 4.9 for ours also because I didn't see it listed? So can we get a special 5th gear for hwy driving on 4.9 final drives? If so which one?

Just buy GSR 5th gears. You'll need both input and counter.

thats weird. got the ats unit and its not that bad driving it at hwy. its just alot louder due to being about 600-800 higher rpm versus with old 4.4.
i dont want to be a dick but if someone complains about high rpm or bad mpg of having a higher final drive dont need to be putting negative comments. the final drive is the best upgrade i ever did with no regret just smile on my face each time i go through the gears. i'll sacrifice comfort/mpg for performance any day. isn't that what most of us do.. now back on topic. got the ats and its pricey compare to m factory. m factory also claim you can still use your 1st gear oppost to ats 4.9/jdm 4.7 where you have to change it.

Not so. Somebody did a MPG chart of before and after (I believe 1greyteg?). They actually got a little BETTER mpg's with the 4.9's, iirc.

Throttle position is a greater factor of MPG than RPM.

honestly. i dont think saving fuel should be a concern doing this upgrade. guys should worry about not getting into trouble. i love driving my car now with the higher fd and can careless how much the fuel. just love it when im at wot each gear and puts a smile on my face from ear to ear. thats only shifting at 6000 rpm. who cares for top end anyway.

I have an ITR . But I know what you mean. If my quater panel was dented to **** it would drive me nuts also. Anyway it was something I wish I had done before putting the ATS final drive in. Just trying to give him some options.
