will this damage a shock?
Uh what? Im pretty sure if you spin the piston its ok.... THe thing you dont want to do with say.. konis is overturn the adjuster **** at the top.
But somebody should clarify that

What did you spin it with? Five really fast rotations with an air tool can be enough to untorque a piston and cause failure. Five turns by hand or maybe at ratchet rotation speed should be no issue at all. More info needed. A shock with a solid rod (non externally adjustable) with be less likely to damage than an externally adjusted shock with a hollow rod.
My response would be to tighten it on up and use it and see if you notice any handling or adjustment issues. Your alternative is to have it dyno tested to know for sure but unless you wailed on it with an impact tool, you are probably fine. PM me if you have any specific questions.
