Default P72 ECU IN 96 D16Y8?

A friend of mine told me its possible to take a 96 integra GSR ECU (p72) and put it in a 96 civc d16y8. He said the Vtech would kick in longer and stronger. Im still skeptical so thats why I came here. I was just gonna run with the p2p ecu until I the story about the p72.

No offense, but your friend is an idiot. What makes vtec kick hard is camshafts and proper fuel managment (via ecu). Why would anyone use a p73 (DOHC ecu) on a SOCH anyways? That's just asking for trouble. Stick with the p2p or go obd1 and have it chipped & tunned. You won't regret it (even for a future DOHC swap).

if the p72 managed to run the single cam (which i highly doubt) then its gonna run like ****. vtec "kick" has nothing to do with your ecu. it has to do with the cam profiles. if you look at a vtec cam shaft youll notice 2 outside primary lobes and a bigger inside secondary lobe. that inside secondary is the vtec lobe. so when your ecu reads the proper rpm (and other proper factors) the vtec solenoid opens up and locks the valves on the cam profile of the secondary lobes. thus giving you the "vtak just kicked y0!!!" feel.

only situation where an integra ECU will run a SOHC hard is with a d16y7 block, OBD1 parts (z6 manifold for example), and an obd1 p75 ( all in a obd1 car). GSR ecu on an OBD2 motor will make it run like ****. Plus GSR reads for IAB's, and you'll get a CEL for that.

Soooo, your first post is a 12 year-old "Dead Thread" bump... and the information that you have provided is completely and utterly flat wrong !!! This makes you either a "Troll" or mechanically ignorant... neither are useful here in this forum. If you are the former, please go away... and if you are the latter, might I suggest you focus on asking questions for a while and refrain from answering any during this same period.

Welcome to the board.
