im trying to make my car a little faster what can i do to loose some of the weight for the lwast amount of money and what mods can i do to gain a little more power

 

strip everything you don't need. take out the power steering, and a/c. keep only the drivers seat in it. get lighter wheels.. do engine mods...

 

lol....i posted this like forever ago....no offense but its just funny ....these cars are sure heavy man....your gonna need to lose alot of creature comforts to really feel any gains....but what i would suggest starting with the undercarriage....aftermarket springs/struts....drop the stock gas tank for a good sized fuelcell....possibly some 16x7 rota wheels with 205/40 r16 Dunlop GT Qualifier tires....a good wheel and tire combo will save considerable amounts of weight....the Dunlop GT Qualifier 205/40 r16 weighs in at 18LBS a piece!!!....Rota is well known for being a stickler for lightweight wheels that wont break the bank.....next I would look into the engine bay....

this is just the start of you saying goodbye to your creature comforts....lol....with doing this lose any extra lines and equipment for just the compressor and pump are decent weightloss gains but just do it the right way the first time ....look into a SS exhaust manifold....SS Catback exhaust....Injen or AEM CAI or any other proven brand....check out either an oddessy or optima battery to replace your OEM unit with....get a good traction bar up front....that will definitly cut some weight....

interior....i would remove everything behind the front seats if i was going for weight reduction....but if your really serious....lose the carpet, passenger seat, remove seat trim, door sill/kickpanel trim, center console, radio, any speakers w/ wiring, door panels and the film too, remove the stock seatbelts, install some kind of safety approved harness' (Properly), remove what you can of the sound deadening material on the floorpan....as for the dash I've seen some pretty sick looking stuff....remove the stock dash and run one half the size from sheetmetal....easily done at a metal fabing/welding shop....prolly a momo wheel with with short hub.

as for the exterior....look to SEIBON for carbon accessories, hood, fenders, trunk, bumpers....also you can get some LEXAN cut for custom applications to replace your stock glass....it is pretty easy to make it look clean....a little sealant, a drill, and a pop rivet gun w/ rivets will get it done.

Well some idea's to get you thinking....but if anyone else has anything to add feel free....

One last thing dont get stupid with weight reduction....nothing is more important than your personal safety....do not remove parts like the bumper supports or seatbelts(without having approved safety harness' ready to install), seriously the Accord can be replaced you cannot....I know you understand !!!

Seriously danjensen,

Let's do the math.

I remove ~200 lbs of crap from my car for absolutely free save for the 1-2 hours it takes me to do it.

AND/OR

Remove power steering (weight + strain on motor for pump) Remove AC (weight + strain) and free up existing HP.

You spend $400 on I/H/E and get 5hp gain.

Who's the smarter one?

Or, let's drop $3000 for the H22 swap and parts and only run 14/15's

Removing weight is a no brainer to increase acceleration, etc.

 

running 14's is a big difference from 16's

But for absolutely free and shaving off ~.5 secs I would guess from all weight reduction stuff that is a much better bang for the buck than $3000 for 1-2 seconds wouldn't you agree?

100% guesstimation on the times and weight on my part, as I'm sure all seats, sound deadening, AC, power steering, spare, ABS, etc is more than 200lbs

But if you read OP's statement

"what can i remove from the car to make it a little faster for the lowest amount of money"

$3000 for a h22 isn't cheap for a ~$3000 car




As a side note, I did the H22 swap with from what I've seen others locally it's a low 14 second car now. (no weight reduction)

Please explain how making a car LIGHTER will make it handle WORSE.

 

It's a stock car dumb dumb, its not gonna handle well no matter how much you rip out. Yes, it will be a little quicker once he has removed some stuff, but if he wants to autox or anything its gonna suck.

WRONG the car is slightly/hardly more agile. True competive auto-x wise the accords are no match still its a lot of fun. I can vouch a stock accord at auto-x heres mine:


BTW the purpose of auto-x is driver abilities and control not how the car handles

Bahahahaha! What makes you think it will handle worse? It will handle better because it will have less weight to move around...braking, acceleration, handling, gas milage, etc will all improve with less weight.

 

Pretty sure it never said worse in that post. Its a stock car, its gonna handle junky no matter what you rip out. Like your boy charri said it will be HARDLY more agile.

 

the handling may or may not improve, depends what the suspension setup is. less weight = high ride height, harsher, etc.........

WoW....Ah...can you say that again please..... I don't know what to say in regards to this comment!!! You have me at a loss for words..... If your car handles like a pile of shyte. Then why bother AutoX. I'm looking at the amount of body roll in your pic. If you where to tighten up your suspension a bit I guarantee you that you would go around the course faster. Driver abilities + a properly tuned suspension wins races. No mater what style of racing. Specially around corners! And the lighter you go the tighter your suspension should be. The stock spring rate is meant for a heavy car. Lighten it up and it will handle like pooh!
