i have a CBR F4i, and it doesn't have a steering stabilizer.. but instead of dishing out 300+ for a GPR, im thinking about modifying someone else's stabilizer on my bike. i see them on ebay all day for no more than 40 bucks to you door.. but i can't picture it on the bike.
anyone own a steering stabilizer equipped bike, that can show me a mounted picture of this shock?

it's an idea, but, the OEM dampers on gsxr's, r6's don't really do much. i konw the OEM damper on my daytona wasn't valved very aggressively.
they basically mount below the triple tree, close to the steering stem.

Stock is not that bad with heavy oil, like 25w...
I would still go w/ aftermarket. But a stock damper (with heavy oil) is a lot better than nothing. If you have some fab skills then go for it.

i do have access to fabrication, but i need to see where these are being mounted.
ive seen aftermarket kits like the GPR, and i think olins, use a shock style strut on the top of the bars, but ive yet to see a yama, or suzuk with their stock locations. (i don't own one)
i have a stock 07 GSXR 1000 stabilizer coming as we speak. i got it for 23 bucks shipped on ebay... i know what it looks like. but where is suzuki mounting their stabilizers? thats what i asked for in my original post.

as for it being stock, and not going with an obviously better aftermarket stabilizer.. for one, they're alot of money... over 300 bucks... second, my bike doesn't even have one.. something has to be better than nothing.
so thats my reasoning. i can fab something to mount it.. but where should i be looking? below the tripple to the frame? or above the bars on the stem, maybe using the upper tank bolts?

I'd bolt the middle of the damper to your frame, I think you will be able to use one of the gas tank mounting holes. Then fab something up to connect the end to your triple clamp. And I think mounting it above the triple will be easiest, here's a pic from a zx10 for reference (The gsxr and zx10 mount in similar fashion):
