Default Anyone running a knife edged crank on your Daily Driver

I was wondering if anyone is running a knife edged crank in there turbo set as a daily driver???
And if you could please post a pic/some pics of your crank and any other input both postive and negative about using this style crank...

Why...

Its a daily driver...do you really need every last bit of power out of the car if you are daily driving?

Is the expense worth the gain on a setup like that? I think not...there are plenty of cheaper and easier ways to pull a couple HP out of a setup besides knife edging.

I mean i know there are so many other ways of adding ponies but i was just curious about reving and wondering if there was a REAL difference and was it something you could do and a N/A or turbo car without sacraficing reliability...

Its not going to add reliability...its just another thing for machinist to screw up in my opinion, removing reliability.

After seeing pictures of a block torn literally in half from an Eagle crank, i'm going to stay well away from them...

acutally if you look close enough it seems those pistons have a dome to them....im guessing high compression n/a setup.

either way the crank snapped, but the thing that im thinking is it may be other causes that the crank did what it did besides the fact that it was knife edged, why i want to hear the story behind it and when this motor did what it did.......

but it could have been the knife edging for all i know.....

well I can tell you that its not a coincidental that the crank snapped right were the thrust bearing is located. Ive seen a few broken cranks and they all crack where the thrust bearing is.

the MAIN purpose of knife edge cranks are to cut down on the drag as it splashes in the oil in the pan. the knife edge allows it to slice through the oil. as a advantage the reduced weight it a plus also. the main problem with the knife edge is chipping any small contact from anything and its toast. you only need to run a knife edge crank whit hpd racers or something to be competitive in NASA or SCCA. because you want to keep the oil as undisdurbed as possible to get picked up and distributed properly. plus the oil sloshing around will slow down the crank slightly.

basicaly unless you doing that sort of racing you will be wasting your money. you dont have to be scared of it cracking unless you get a questionable machinest to do it...or go throwing lightend crank pulleys and ebay flywheels on your ****, lol.

the crank above most likely spun a bearing and in that split second it smashed the thrust bearing and started to create some nasty harmonics and it didnt have any sort of dampner to save it so it cracked and turned in to a IED!

Ive got similar pics from a 3000gt vr4...lucky for him those 6G72's are built like sherman tanks!
