Default DET scanners. Who uses them? How did you make it?

i bought a stethescope from harbor freight and i'm looking to convert it to be used in detection of knock. Plans are to put a big magnet on the end of the scope so it is securely attached to the block then run long tubing through the firewall which are going to be attached to either the ear piece that came with the scope or to a set of ear protectors (for lack of a better term).

anyone else use these to tune and dont mind sharing how you made it?

I'm sorry but i dont quite understand the use of that by looking at a picture and i cant find it on their website.

the point of doing it the way i described is because of the price.

Looks like a real nice spark plug inspection tool. Plugs will 'pick up' traces of knock that a knock sensor wont.

yes, but im not going to pull the plugs while i am tuning the ignition in real-time. Too time consuming. Especially when all i am trying to accomplish is basically getting a hearing aid for the combustion chamber.

I built a set using a piece of copper tubing hammered flat at one end and hooked up to hard plastic tubing that ran to a pair of old shooting ear muffs.

In my opinion its easier to just tune on a dyno than trying to speculate about what you may or may not have heard.
