information on nesba
Hello all,
I'm looking for information on NESBA. I'm a completely new to the track but it is something I really would like to get into in the Spring. I was referred to NESBA by an old friend, but I just wanted some more information on it. How is the organization? I've never even been on a track before and I also honestly don't ride that aggressively on the street(Scared of tickets and just the general conditions of roads around Pittsburgh) but I want to ride fast and get my knee down.
Are there any other organizations I should consider joining? FYI i'm located in the Pittsburgh area. Thank you

NESBA is a good organization. A few others to check out are
CCS http://www.ccsracing.us/
WERA http://www.wera.com
Also, find the websites to a local track, and check their schedules and find when the motorcycle track days will be, and what organizations will be hosting them.
I assume you'll be riding an SV650 (based on your name), and thats a good bike to get on, and I think NESBA has a healthy class for such a bike.

CCS and WERA are race organizations that don't host track days.
Two others to look into are:
Sportbike Track Time
Team Pro-Motion
My last track day was with STT and it was a lot of fun, I watched their Beginner class and it looks to be a GREAT way to get on track for your first outing

For your first time I would ride with Sportbiketracktime. I did and felt they gave good important instruction. NESBA just unleashes into the madness and while the Control Riders will help, it's not the same as the instruction that STT gives. Team Promotion also does beginner instruction but my impression from friends taking it was that it wasn't the best.

I've run it in a car but not on two wheels yet
Beaver hosts several motorcycle track days/weekends throughout the year.

Don't forget Mid-Ohio, Summit Point, and Nelson Ledges are fairly close as well.

I too am from the pittsburgh area. BeaveRun is an awesome track to learn on. I did my first day with STT and it was great. The beginner class starts pretty slow, but they really watch out for the safety of the riders. By the end of the day though they let you go all out. Like said before NESBA is a bad one to start with. When I did a day with them the control riders really werent picking up people doing some dumb things, and there were 10+ wrecks in the intermediate group I was in within the first 2 sessions.
Let me know in the spring when you decide to go

Yeah nesba can be tough first few times. I've done several days with them and one day it was miserable and ended in me knocked unconscious in a crash and another day traffic was great and I ran my best times ever. Nesba tends to always be full which causes lots of traffic and as a brand new ride it can be intimidating, frustrating, and sometimes dangerous

Most events at Summit main on the weekends are like that, unfortunately.

hmmm nesba is out to bad they hit beaver run so many times. SlowB16 are you a track only rider right now? Be nice to ride with someone who is responsible. The only time I went on a group ride out here they were more interested in checking out chicks on carson street than actually riding.... I will definatly let you know when I go out would be nice to have someone who has been to the track before to meet up with for the first time.
I have heard bad things about nesba... fast guys stuck in slower groups because control riders don't have time or want to bump them up, ect (ruins the fast guys day, and also the slow guys who are getting passed aggressively). They don't operate out here so I can't tell you first hand, but search on the CCS or WERA forums there are 100 page threads on them.
Nesba is a pretty big group, so naturally you're going to have some people that arent happy. They make everyone start in beginner, and I did my first day with them and it was pretty painful being stuck in the beginner group for 2 days until I got bumped up. Other than that, they seemed to put on a well run event and the instructors were good.
My personal critique on them is I think the day runs the smoothest with Nesba in terms of maximum track time. They're a large group and yes some Control Riders seem to be picky with bumping. It is the toughest organization to get bumped in. The passing rules in Nesba are also pretty strict which will slow you up in some cases regardless of what some people say. i.e. Summit Point Main in B group you can only pass in the straights and they've shut down between 3 to 4 the times I've ridden with them. This means if you get stuck behind someone you're behind them through the whole carousel/backside of the track till you get to turn 9 to 10. Very frustrating at times. The groups in general are quick though. One big downside is you can't pass a CR unless you get a wave by. In some cases this causes huge bottlenecks.
Team Pro-motion I enjoyed a lot. I LOVED the passing rules though it caused for some sketchy moments for B group riders. We were allowed to pass everywhere where the bike is up and down, in turns on the outside and inside after the apex. It seemed like it took forever to get people onto the track though and i though the way they released the riders was odd. Was very tough to get out there with friends. It also seemed like they didn't exactly like you to hot pit and get back out to avoid traffic. They seemed quite annoyed when I came in a couple times. I didn't like how they showed the checkered flag on the backside of the track too and they never showed a white flag. Overall it was a good day but had some downsides. No rules for passing CR's.
Sportbike Track Time I rode for my first day and had a blast. Had great beginner instruction and helped you get up to speed. You're only allowed to pass in straights and they didn't shut down between 3 and 4 at summit point main which was fun. I felt the instructors gave good useful information and after every session I got tips on stuff to work on and most times on the track the instructor would point out a line, braking, or other tip to try. There aren't any CR passing rules either. STT however was the only group NOT to run airfence at summit main which made several turns quite dangerous. I was too naive to realize this for my first day. I was too excited about riding on the track.

Yep. Day 1 of the event I did, I tried to get bumped - even though I was passing (and lapping) everyone in the beginner group, the CR said I still needed to carry more corner speed. That was a bit frustrating, I just wanted to get out of the cluster and turn some laps without traffic. Finally got bumped out on day 2.

hmmm nesba has the earliest available track day at beaver run is it worth waiting and doing my first day with someone else, or should I just go ahead and run nesba?
Been doing NESBA for years... in fact, I went from Beginner up through to Advanced (before riding with other orgs) all within the NESBA program, and it's been great to me. Been track-only riding since day one, although a few years back, I picked up the blackbird for local street cruising.
Anyway, I live right down the road from you in North Fayette (Robinson town center), and have built a few track/race bikes, so if you need anything at all (advice/garage/wrench time/tools/parts/vinyl/track prep) just ask or stop by. After years of ridiculous amounts of track time, we're now having a baby and moving hopefully closer to you in Peters twp., so this year I might not make as many days. Regardless, if you need anything, let me know.

Peters is a nice area, I actually bought my bike at the suzuki dealership in cannonsburg.
That is funny this summer I'm actually looking to make a switch and move out closer to that area(Robison Town Center). I work in bridgeville and I would like to move a little closer to the city. I may take you up on the garage I've got a very slightly leaking fork seal, and a gsx-r shock to swap onto the rear of my SV.

personal opinion; look at nesba, team promotion, ny sportbike club and stt's webpages. look to see who's doing the most days at beaver. everyone trash talks this club and that club, but the reality is they are what you make of them. i've been riding with promotion since 1999 and i've rode with absolute, champion and nysb at one time or another. all of them offer this and that a little bit different. but in the end, it's all on you on what you're gonna get out of it.
myself, i'm partial to tpm, because i know a lot of people that ride there and i like what they do. glen, dave, george and smokin' joe have been there for years encouraging me, listening to me and offering me advice.
