Default simple exhaust question

me and my buddy are working on his civic and he bought a full exhaust system but the muffler and exhaust tip doesn't fit. its going from 2.25'' to 2.50''.....am i going to have to weld a reducer cone on? someone else told me to you a silicone reducer and ive never heard of that on exhausts just like turbo intercoolers etc. i did look at them and they can withstand temps up to 500F.....i figure the silicone option is stupid.....but i am a tear things apart and learn type of guy so i dont know a whole lot and about anything just just a little about a little....any suggestions.....thanks....

Use nothing but metal and welding on a exhaust.

You can also use duct tap, to hold it up. One of my friend did it, until he hit a nice bump on a bridge an what you know.
