Default Suggestions on turbo adapter

I wanted to make an turbo adapter o so I can use any turbo with the EASE of just removing v-band coupler instead of tedious bolts.

The Idea

Clamp Assembly:

V-band flanges:

Machined Flanges for use without Gaskets

VS

Machined Flanges for use with Flat Gaskets for use with Flat Gaskets are recommended for high temperature applications

Suggestions needed:

Sealing the connection
I've seen the new Tial SS exhaust housings with V-band flanges and they don't have a space machined in them to fit gaskets, but I wonder if I would need them? Does anybody have any experience with using a v-band to seal a turbo and manifold together?

Bracing the turbo:

I'm just gonna use my stock manifold so I dont think I would have any issues with cracking my cast steel mani with a heavier turbo, BUT since we're talking v-band couplers, then I need to know whether having the added stress of 35lbs from holding a turbo will cause any issues for me. I've seen a few cool heim joint supports that attach to exhaust housings and brace to engine blocks, but the turbo I use is all v-band (not exhaust housing). The discharge is vband, the chra is connected to the exh housing and comp housing with a vband as well SO I don't have anything I could really use to bolt something to.

I don't have a shortblock to mock up the turbo yet, but I still need to see if theres anyway I can make a brace in order to take the weight of the turbo off of the v-band coupler.

If I dont have a support,, will the v-band eventually fail?

Adapter Idea:

I'm not sure if the adapter will just be a straight tube or even a bent tube.
Pipe or Tube? Tubing is much thicker & stronger, but pipe can be formed easier.

First picture shows 2 possible spots for coupler (before bend or after). Id probly put it before the bend so that if i switch turbos I can control the position of them by either keeping the turbo side adapter tube section straight or bent. The turbo im buying now will require will need a bend in order to move the turbo away from the block because of clearance issues.

Heres a transition pipe made from columbia river mandrel bends:

Heres the t3 flange (duh)

Heres the toyota manifold flange: Yes, its a twin scroll, but I can also use a supra flange which is just a single hole & I can smooth out my manifold to transition better.

Does anybody have pictures of other cool adapters that people have made?

How often to you plan on swaping out turbos? for reliabilty you cant get anybetter than the bolt on flange. I wouldnt trust my turbo hanging on by a v-band (maybe a td04 or 05...but nothing any bigger). If you insist on using v-bands your gonna need to support it with some type of reinforcments or else your looking at a lot of cracking and stress.

Yep, that was one of my worries and also I guess one problem that needs a solution.
The turbo im using will be a Holset Hy35 and the only portion of the turbo that uses bolts is the exh housing inlet flange and the oil feed/drain areas lol. Welding onto the cast exh housing seems like an option..

I want to use two or three different turbos. HY35, gt28rs and maybe something else..

I was bored so I made this nice thread in case somebody is wondering ;-)

Bingo Bango!
I'd like to start off with one turbo, dual duty.
Then try out two different turbos just for fun to see what results are with these setups (stock ecu & then if i wanna blow cash on an aem tune then ill do it as well).
Finally try the gt28rs or just end up with the original dual duty turbo or previous 2 turbos.

The v-band approach just makes things a tad easierw .

Heres a thread with pictures of a tial vband housing installed with no bracing, but it is laying on top of the mani flange.
