before u swap it in your car and and fire it up..u will not be able to tell how healthy it is by just visually inspecting it. and i dont think buyer or engine supplier will let u tear up the engine and see interiror. but u can tell how complete the swap is and how clean it is..buying a used engine swap from a unknow source it is more like a risk u need to take.where did u buy it from?cause normally the engine seller from internet offers a start up warranty. i got mine jdm b16a from a local shop and they offered the same thing too.and luckily everything works and it fires up right away.
are u getting a jdm or usdm...

Make sure whoever you buy it from has some kind of warranty.

do a compression or leakdown test, thats really your only option for determining the health of a motor besides starting it

If they won't let you do that, take off the oil cap and look inside and see what color the valve train is (what you can see anyway). If it's really dark it obvious that it didn't get regular oil changes. Not exactly going to tell you the condition of the internals, but it's better than nothing.

Thanks for the responses so far. I'll be sure to look at the valvetrain and see if I can set up some type of warranty with the seller. I'm buying it from a guy straight off Honda-Tech! Anyone heard of a guy name Decypha?

Yeah, but he's an *********. He tried to sell me a jackson racing supercharger. When I got it in the mail the case was cracked. He wouldn't return my money. I paid $1500 for it. I was able to patch it and filled it with oil, but the damage was done. The bearings were ruined. Tell him BIg Bob Tubb III is looking for him.

You have been forewarned. If that can happen with an item like a supercharger, think of the endless possibilities for problems with a swap!?! I would buy from a reputable dealer, just makes me feel better knowing that someone actually has money invested into a business and not some yahoo off the net looking for suckers!

No offence Tubb!
