Default Problem going into Reverse

I have a 2007 Civic Si. It has almost 21k miles on it. This morning, I'm trying to put the car in reverse, but it will not go in. It just pops right back out. First thing I thought of was my clutch. But I can go into all my other gears while driving without any popping. The only gear that feels loose is 6th. Any help?

i cant really tell you much since i dont have an Si, but it happens to me too in my fg1. first it was my 1st gear, now its reverse too. it may be time for an MTF flush for me.

it may have something to do with your car being cold.

It was doing this when my car is fully warmed up to. I can't even use my reverse gear anymore...it just doesn't lock in.

Do you have a short shifter? How about an intake? See if anything is loose if you have a short shifter. If you have an intake check underneath it where it lays over the tranny. Hell maybe something got jammed up into the cables on top of the tranny.

I remember when i had a 97 VW about 10 years ago, sometimes a chunk of ice would get up in the cables and clog up the shifting.

Yup. I have the TWM Short Shifter/Cable bushings.

It's not the clutch though, right? 'Cause thats what I have the biggest fear of right now. Too expensive to replace.

I dont think so.....enough people have complained about their short shifter preventing gear entrance. Just take it apart and re install.

Well, I opened up my hood to see if I can see anything wrong with my bushings...

The part highlighted, the black casing seems to be separated like it broke off. The cable seems to be fine, but not the black piece. You think that is the problem?

Im not going to lie etc, but I do not know much about the stuff there. Can you push and pull on the cables to shift it manually under the hood? See if you can get into reverse that way. Better yet have someone else shift from the inside and watch from under the hood and see what is actually happening. Sorry I couldnt be anymore help.

I figured out the problem. It's the shift cable. The black piece is broken. When I put it together, I was able to put it into reverse. When it was separates, I can't put it into reverse.

Anyone know where I can buy new ones?

This is a regular problem with short shifters isn't it? A lot of people (not just Civic owners) have had problems with cables get sheared, snapped, etc because the short shifter is designed poorly.

I think it has something to do with the fact that the shift cables can no longer engage fully due to the changed geometry of the shifter. In turn, that puts odd pressure on the cable itself and results in the shearing. Shifting slower might relieve the problem but then that takes away the purpose of getting a short shifter.

If it happens again after you replace the cable, I would say just go back to stock and drop kick whoever sold you the short shifter.
