k so i have a lowered civic that i take to the mountain. les shcwab says my car is tooooooo low for chains and i should buy some 600$$$ snow tires (f*** THAT). Well i live in oregon and the law at mt.HOOD is if you dont put chains on your wheels if the sighn says to you get a ticket and trust me a honda driver hates tickets no matter what. So does any one have some specialty advice. ive heard of straps or something like that. Does that count as chains ???????????????

Do you think there is a reason why they hand out tickets for no snow chains? People always get stranded up there even driving 4x4's. Raise your car, get some chains or buy an old 4Runner or something to drive up.

Oh, and you can pick up some snow tires for ~$200. Check Disc. Tire. I got some Hankook snows for $49/tire. Worked just as well as my old Blizzaks.

Even if you do find snow chains, cables, or winter tires that fit you don't want to be trekking around in the snow on a lowered civic. It's just a bad idea.

 

i'm with them:low+snow=no go.but I got cables for mine and they work great..but my car ain't lowered.sorry.

Again, it won't help if you are lowered, if there is any significant amount of snow you will just beach your car.

If your main concern is the mountain, call them and ask what exactly is required.

Personally, I'd opt for a set of dedicated snow tires.

i posted it as a joke... i dont think those things do jack... i dont see how they get traction in the snow.

 

Hankook iPikes with Studs....they'd do the trick and wont ruin your fenders. I think i'm going to get a set for next winter

 

this type of situation is where coil overs r your best friend cause u can raise it up and put chains on it, but still be able to be dropped in the summer. so IMO raise it up, or purchase diff sus.

 

ok you guys i found a solution and wow!!! crazy!!!!!! its called the spider something and it has studes on it. they sell them at les schwab they are around $$350 ill post some pics soon

 

Again, taking a lowered car in the snow is not a good idea.

Secondly, before you get studs make sure you are allowed to use them on roads. Different states have different rules.

 

Apperantly where I live in NJ they will give you a ticket for having chains on your tires. Which really sucks because I live on a expletiveing mountain and have hills that are and a 65% slope that is a sheet of ice whenever there is snow on the ground. I had studded snow tires last year and my car was being passed by kias like they had 4 wheel drive.

Yeah, but you have to get an alignment every time you change your height. It wouldn't be all bad if you got a lifetime alignment deal or something.

 

i'm in the same situation you're in. what I've come across so far are these chains made by a company called "klack n go" they're german chains and are designed to tighten as you drive, so they're not going to expand the faster you drive with the chains on. the only place in CA that carries them are chicks sporting goods. They run for about $150 the last time I checked, which is about triple of what normal tire chains/cables cost. I have yet to try them on my car I have Tein S-techs on a 97 integra coupe w/ stock tires.
