wanting to go aem ems!
well rite now im in the process of tearing out everything in my crx, originaly i was gonna use the stock harness and just remove everything im not ognna use and just have the bare essensials head lights taillights blah blah...but now im thinking about going aem universal ems and wiring everything up and i was reading about painless wiring and doing that for my head lights and all that. so just removing everything that stock and making my own wiring with those two things. what do you guys think i need some input on this decion at the moment i have s300! thanx guys!
you can use a painless harness for the chassis but the aem is an engine computer so you will need to use your honda harness and get the pnp ems. It will be much easier that way.
i wanted to go with universal aem because when i got my crx the owner before me chopped up the underdash harness pretty bad so thats why i want to completely clear it out and start from scratch. i know its gonna take some time but hopefully it be worth it, but maybe ill look into making my own obd1 harness it shouldnt be too bad, thanx for all the post!
any one that has used painless? and about how much is a good price for it?

AEM's best feature is that it's plug and play. If you're not going to take advantage of that, you'd be better of going with a different computer. You can get a Motec M4 with a really nice pre made Honda harness for less than $3k.
I have an 89 civic i'm building for a turbo drag car. what i did was i got a painless wiring fuse box for the chassis. wired the car up and then i got a 1996 civic si harness from the dealer...they are so cheap. I got the 96 civic PnP AEM EMS to plug in to the civic harness and then cutoff the green plug on the civic harness and tied it in with my wiring in the car. works awesome and is clean....plus the engine wiring is done for you.
see on the 96 civic engine harness there is no plugs that go on the shock towers....it's one complete harness into the car.

If you're on a budget then run a EMS. If you have money to spare then go with a Motec M4 Clubman. Quoted by Whoally: "The EMS is as good as the tuner."
AEM all the way! I use the Universal 1900U with the 72" harness...it also comes with the fusebox, and silkscreen printed wires to make the installation a snap. I also sell and tune both universal and PnP AEM units...great system...reliable...and cost effective for the street and track.
BTW, I broke all of my previous records, when I switched to the AEM EMS
