Yes the H22's sleeves are made of a different material then other honda blocks. They can not be bored. You have to resleeve the block. The F20C of the S200 has the same sleeves.

If you use those pistons in the standard block, both the pistons and the cylinder walls will be damaged in a very short space of time. This is due to the FRM (Fibre Re-enforced Matrix) material that Honda use in the H-Series blocks.

The only way around this, is to use a piston that has been specially designed to work with FRM, like the Jun or Mahle Gold Series pistons.
JE Pistons are NOT designed to be used with FRM, so your only choice if you want to use them, is to get the block bored out bigger, then have some iron liners pressed in. This will still give you a 87mm bore, but it will be iron, instead of FRM

I went for Darton Flanged liners. I think they were $160 for the set from race-eng.com.

Snce your going to the trouble of sleeving and buying new pistons you may aswell go to 88mm/88.5mm bore.

You could go to 90mm but then that leaves no room for a re-bore if things go **** up

Edit: Just realised you've already got your pistons so ignore most of my original post.

The JE pistons i bought are 87mm standard.......in another forum "98VTEC" told me those wouldnt work with darton iron Liners, he said i needed 87mm oversized(87.25) pistons, can someone clear this up please

All depends on the internal diameter if the liners. I cant see why Darton wouldnt make the liners compatable with stock bore size but i may be wrong.

Are you sure he wasnt talking about using Mahle gold series pistons without re-sleeving?

i was referring to using the JE's with darton liners. He needs to talk to darton to see if they make a 87mm standard bore liner. I have 89mm liners in my h23vtec so i dont know about stock bores.

I've just had the same liners installed and bored to 88mm.

I would be shocked if you cant run standard bore although its deffinately worth giving Darton a call

at this point i would say go talk to your machinist. if they cant tell you what you should be doing, find a different machinist.

it says right on that sight 87mm. there is a chance that they could be undersized and you are supposed to have them bored to size but they are likely 87mm and will need to be rebored after they are installed to fix any misalignment from the install process.

I would go with the flanged liners. Its only an extra $80 for the set.

Have you spoken to Darton yet?

i am confused the whole way.you have je pistons correct not
mahle piston's as was mentioned earlier in the thread.

1-YOU will NOT be able to run those je pistons on a stock h22/23 sleeve
PERIOD.

2-you could have the block sleeved for your 87mm je pistons and call it the day.this is gonna range anywhere fron 700-1400 bucks.

3-you could get an F SERIES block and bore it like i did "problem solved"just have to do the modifications needed to make the h22 head work on an F SERIES block.

you just don't bore or hone a block and stick the pistons in.you bore or hone "EACH CYLINDER" to the piston and mark them for that cylinder.
as far as the min. you can bore a darton sleeve i am going to 86mm as in
the F series blocks are 86mm.this is if your going to sleeve

if i'm not right on any of this slap the hell out of me"and i won't hit you back"

OK here, for you answers
1. It was clearly stated that you cannot run forged aluminum pistons on the FRM sleeves that come on the stock H22a block, but thanks for adding it again
2. I know i could sleeve the block precisely for the 87mm pistons with darton or benson but i kinda wanted to save money and not spend $1200 bucks if i didnt have to and there was different alternatives i could use...
3. I didnt know you could do Fseries block with the h22 head, never read bout it, interesting, i like i like
