I bought a 99 ex automatic a few months ago. According to kbb, i should have a vtec. It is not written on the car anywhere, not on the enging or anything. How can I tell if it is?

Oh and I read that after like 96 civics didnt have fitv's (fast idle thermo valve's), is that true. My throttle body has a top and botton hole, isnt the bottom of for the fitv?

 

Your engine SHOULD be VTEC if it wasn't swapped out.

Look on the engine, the engine code will be stamped somewhere...it will say D16Y7 if it isn't VTEC, and D16Y8 if it is VTEC.

They don't all say VTEC on the valve cover.

 

Could also look for a vtec solenoid...

If it's an ex, 60% of the time, it's a vtec 100% of the time
