Default Alarm issue in a 2005 Civic

Hey folks,

I'm having an issue with a family friend's 2005 Civic. When bought, the alarm was installed as a dealer add-on. The alarm will activate but it does not lock the doors. However, if the headlights are turned on, the alarm will activate and lock / unlock the doors.

Does anyone have an idea of what may be going on with this, or how to go about diagnosing it? Is there anything that should be checked before resolving to sending this to a shop?

Thanks in advance folks!

Somethings wrong with the ground wire for the alarm. The black ground wire should be attached to a solid chassis ground usually on the kickpanel. It might be hooked up the the blue (negative parking light wire) under the steering column.

This is obviously guessing, without having seen your car.
