Starting Autox next season
Hey all. Im new to autocross, just been reading the info on websites and this forum. I love my car to death, and im pretty hardcore enthusiast. Back in the days it was all illegal street racing and stuff, but now i want to play it legit. And I would love to learn how to properly drive my car. What else do I need to know before I start? Is there anything I need to bring? Starting Fee? Safety Equipment? etc etc
My car is an 00 si with the following:
cai
gc/konis 400/450
Oh yeah... I read the other thread about how you should start out on completely stock.... but im already on gc/konis.... am i destined for faillure?
I just want to be the best driver I can be, and make informed decisions from here on out based on my own experience not others.

you are not destined for failure
in auto-xing failure is not having fun. it takes years of seat time to be good(i suck)

yea if youve changed the spring rates and dont want to go back, then the wheels dont matter anymore. just make sure your tires have a tread rating better than 160 and are 215 or narrower
EDIT: i gave bad info. its tread wear of 140 and a width of 225 or narrower for sts.

It's actually treadwear of 140 and tire width of 225 for STS per 14.3A and B.
Treadwear on your tire must be at or higher than 140.
Tire width can be 225 or narrower.

You've got a great start on car setup. I would highly recommend a couple other things. First is a rear swaybar. 2nd is to set your tire pressures to help the car rotate.... like run 40 front and 30 rear... and then go down in back from there is you need the car to rotate more.
I've put up a tuning guide here.

It's for an 89 Civic but it's all identical to your car. Your car is heavier than the 89 Civic; so if you find yourself in a region with a couple fast STS guys, you'll have a hard time keeping up. But you'll be close. I would say on a national course, your car would be 1 second or more slower than an 89 Civic Si; so that'll give you a place to start. Hope that helps.

Once you got out there and run your car you will have a blast. For your first events, dont worry about trying to place in the top 3 just yet, you will overdrive each time. Also dont be embarrased to ask for an instructor to ride with you. The mods you have will suffice, just go out and have fun
