Q: Hitachi Dist,, Cap, and Oring ?
The vehicle MY is at the signature below: I relisted this question with a different title. No response is forthcoming on my original post. I think the title was too specific to draw any interest. It was read but evidently no one knew the answer or they didnt bother to tell me what they knew. I need to reassemble the vehicle and I am at a standstill until I get an answer to this question
Here is the basic issue: I purchased a new rubber Oring-Gasket for the Distributor. I noticed that there are two slightly curved rectangular slotted openings in the housing where the gasket is supposed to go - on the side going toward the firewall.
Does the rubber gasket/seal simply lay flat over the top of the two open areas? ... Anyone know about this? ... I read that there are two Dist, a Hitachi and a TEC. I assume that I have the Hitachi. The cap is Hitachi.
Also, an ex-Honda tech told me that he thinks rubber plugs go in those slots.

Are you talking about these?

the two rubber "tabs" should sorta slide into the distributor housing and held in place from sliding out by the cap. I hope that is what you are asking.

Yes and no. I have that Gasket-Oring, and my Distributor looks the same, and has those notched out areas, but they are on the Radiator side and I said: ... " on the side going toward the firewall." The area I am talking about is actually open right along the edge where the oring goes. It is quite obvious, at least on my distributor. You might need a mirror to see it for the first time if you have not noticed it before. If you have the cap off, and bend down and look at the underneath of the Dist housing at eye level, then you might be able to see it that way also. I was able to see it that way also, but there are two areas that are slotted and you can only see one of them by this method. But if you have a small mirror and hold it under the firewall side then you can see the openings and notched flanged area.
Yes, in response to later posted replies, the Distributor on this VTEC has an internal coil and Ignition Module.

I'm not sure what you are talking about... Other than those two rubber tabs the rest of the gasket just goes on the surface between the distributor housing and the cap, there may even be a groove for it but I can't recall exactly. But I have a F22B1 sitting on the engine stand at home so I will go ahead and look at it when I get home after work today to see if I can understand what it is you are describing.
touring , that looks like a pic from a 90-91 accord distributor , it has the coil inside,, starting in 92 they has external coil .. his yr car might have different distr design , I do not have a pic to compare..
But i think that he is talking about the same cap seal,,,,,, Not 100% sure .

nope, that is of the 94-97 Accord EX distributor. I'm not really sure about the 90-93 Accords but I am sure that the 94-97 EX (F22B1) has a distributor with an internal coil and the 94-97 LX and DX (F22B2) has a distributor with an external coil.

DAMNIT! no, sorry. It completely slipped my mind. My girls Jimmy had a leaky fuel pressure regulator that I was busy with yesterday. I will look today. Sorry about that.
Re: Attention: TouringAccord (TouringAccord)

ok, sorry about that... here are a couple pictures.
is this what you are talking about?

Sorry for the blurry pictures, couldn't seem to hold the camera still for these

If that is the "slots" you are referring to then no, there isn't anything supposed to go there. As you can see the distributor cap gasket seals the housing and the cap there. I don't have anything there and this engine always ran in great shape. Just use the cap gasket and put it in the little groove, you'll be fine.

I took two pics. Don't know how to get them into the post. BUT it is not important now, as your pics showed the area I was referring to. So, I will install the new O-ring I have. Thanks for the correct answer.
I wonder what Hitachi/Honda engineers had in mind when they designed those slots like that? I never saw any other mfrs. Dist caps with slots like that.

glad you got the answer you were looking for.
to post a picture you first need to upload the pictures to a free hosting site like PhotoBucket. Then you copy the URL of the uploaded picture and paste it between the IMG tags here in your post body. It would looks something like (just without spaces).
