Default b16a2 head on b18c5 block

can someone please tell me the benefit of putting a b16a2 head from a 99-00 si onto a b18c5 block from a type r? I thought the heads on both were the same but I often come across cars (in mags, web, etc) that use that setup

its called a "poor mans type R", but the B18c5 head has better cams, springs, valves, intake mani, and is slightly ported

If you have a ITR head already, there is absolutely no benefit (stock vs. stock)

If you don't have a head at all, its basically the same as the ITR head but without the minor port and different internals (valves, valvesprings, retainers) So there still is no benefit over anything.

The head casting itself is the same between B16s, ITRs and B17s

The reason people probably do this setup is because they either messed up their ITR head and found a B16 head and just worked on it. Or they used to have a B16 and decided to go 1.8l and got a ITR block.

Its not like one of those things where you go "oh man! I'm gonna go B16head/ITR block son cuz that ***** whats poppin!" or anything

The head is definately ported slightly. Not just port matched

b16 head and b18c5 block also produce higher compression ratio

EEEGGGRRRR Wrong. Compared to what? A straight B18C5? NOPE.

Only the GSR (B18C1 that is) head creates more compression because the combustion chamber is smaller than a PR3 head (B16s, B17s, B18C5/ITRs)

I'm told it can produce slightly higher revs, But its usually done when you have a LS none vtec head, but on a b18c not the problem

Yes, and no. It won't rev higher than a Type "R" head because the "R" head has dual valvesprings good up to 9kRPM. The B16 has single valvesprings good up to 8400RPM.

What you're talking about is what's known as an LS/VTEC. And it's more complicated than that.
