Default a civic fell into my lap

so my neighbor has had 1994 civic dx sedan for a couple of years and has been sitting out front of his house for a bout 9 months. he told me that i could sell it for him and keep anything over 750 dollars. well as i started to inspect the car i realized it had a jdm d15b in it. so now i think i am going to turn it into my daily driver(i have a subaru that is my DD right now). the only bad thing is that it needs a new clutch, which shouldnt be hard. what are some good and reallllllllllyyyy cheap mods to get this car kinda peppy? i dont want to dump an insane amount of money into this car, that is what my subaru is for. i just want to fix it and have a fun little DD.

thanks

Ian

p.s. ill get some pics up when i can

I have no experience with D engines but I'll just give you the answer that I see a lot of people give to a similar question. You won't get any good performance for real cheap with a D.

By the way, you're right, that Subaru is definitely the car to pour money into!

With civics, the only way to get decent power is to swap them or boost the little d. Seeing as how you don't want to waste too much money...boosting would be more of your ballgame. You can do it for around 2,000 if you do it right...Just look around for a used greddy kit. That will make it pretty peppy. If you don't want to spend that much...then its really not worth putting money into at all You could do the usual i/h/e but it would give you like 10hp tops.

i'd say do some maintence work on the motor/car, new oem rims, nice suspension, a few minor exterior mods and call it day.

In all honesty, you won't put on any "cheap mods" that will make that JDM D15B "peppy."

In the words of Archidictus:
"Boost or stock."

- when it comes to the D16Z6/Y8/D15B, etc.

in all honesty that civic GURPLE sedan is not worth your time to fix and resale

a JDM d15b is not an upgrade, he just through it in there to get it running, if you want to get even a decent amount of money for it it NEEDS to be manual, a diffrent color, and a swap,i say keep the subaru, as it has TONS more potential

While I 100% agree with you to keep the Subaru you have, sell the civic for 1500, gain 750, new clutch for the Subbie is paid for, and you have some extra cash to buy tires with or some ****, I really don't see sinking $$ into that thing.

It's been sitting out there awhile, so ****'s probably started to dry out (seals). It's nothing fast, nor with the engine it has can it be made fast unless you wanna dump some $$ into it for a turbo.

It doesn't need to be a manual, especially if you live in a city type area with lots of traffic and/or stop signs/lights.

I drive my ex-girls civic around town all the time and it's a joy not having to clutch 'n such with all the traffic and stop and go and lights, so on and so forth. So uhh, transmission really doesn't matter, they'll both hold the power of a JDM D15B fine.

If it is an auto, replace the transmission fluid if you do buy it, but I wouldn't say buy it :-\.

- Sell it for 1500
- Give owner his cut
- New clutch for the Subbie
- Get a deck or a nice little upgrade with the remaining 300 or whatever.

thank you guys for the comments on my subie(it's my baby)

i am positive that it a jdm d15b. i checked the engine code on the block and there are no numbers after it. if i cant get that much for it then i wont sell it. i need to be keeping miles off the subie caus **** on that is waaaaaaayyyyyy more expesive if something breaks. even though i still owe on the subaru i still would be saving money in the long run not filling up so much. here in oregon it usually costs me around $38-$42 to fill every WEEK! i was hoping to get about $2000 once i get the car fixed but like i said if i cant get that much ill just keep it.

and as far as making the civic fast or anything. im not looking for any real gain in power in it. i just want it to be responsive and fun to drive i.e. suspension and lightweight crank pulley if available, intake, and maybe exhaust. it is a DD so i wont be dropping big money in it.

thanks again

ian

You could throw an ebay (cheap, generic, etc.) intake on there for a little better throttle response. For suspension, wait until your trial status ends and check out the honda-tech sponsor marketplace. There are some really good deals to be had there. Personally, I'm going to be purchasing another set of K-Sport full coilovers ($539 shipped) for my ej8 (96 Civic EX). I had them on my slow-as-**** 90 Civic STD hatchback and LOVED the ride.

So, with that being said, you can have fully adjustable suspension and an intake for around $650 to your door which will make driving the purple car a lot more fun.
